Australian fashion group, ABA Labels, earns B Corp Certification

  • Written by: Leanne Baker

ABA Labels, a Sydney-based fashion group with social, ethical and environmental responsibility at its core has earned one of the most prestigious social conscious accolades, B Corp Certification.

Designed in the heart of Surry Hills, ABA Labels is behind well-established brands including Tussah, Chancery and Calli The Label, along with new additions Willa, The Fated and BWLDR. The B Corp Certification is testament to the company’s focus on accessible, luxurious fashion with environmental and social responsibility.

The man behind the business and the driving force of the company’s ethical approach, Paul Elsibai commented, “To be bestowed with B Corp status really is the highest accolade we could hope to receive. Ensuring our company, practices and people are focused daily on minimising environmental impact, can sometimes be challenging, however, when it is built into the fabric of the business, it becomes ingrained and something we just live and breathe.

“We do what we do – including making considered fabric sourcing decisions, establishing an ethical supply chain and the conscious avoidance of harmful chemicals, amongst other initiatives – as we believe every single business is responsible for making the world just that little bit better.

“We are immensely proud of what we have achieved as a business, with continual growth occurring alongside our environmental commitment, and we wish to share this recognition with our partners who support us every step of the way.”

Gayertree Subramaniam at B Lab Australia & New Zealand, the company behind the B Corporation Certification program, explains the significance of the recognition; “Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

“In Australia and around the world we are seeing a gradual shift in people considering ethical product purchase, but we recognise for businesses, especially those in the fashion industry, providing ethically sourced products at a reasonable price, can be a challenge.

“ABA Labels is a company all Australians should be proud of and continue to support. Their environmental approach to sustainability and commitment to people ahead of profits is to be commended and I congratulate them on their certification,” Subramaniam concluded.

ABA Labels CEO Paul Elsibai explained, ”It’s up to fashion brands to help make consumers’ decisions simpler and easier by acting ethically from the offset. ABA Labels doesn’t ask its customers to pay the price for socially and environmentally conscious clothing, but instead uses smart business decisions to keep its costs down.

As demand for socially responsible, ethical and environmentally conscious clothing grows, ABA Labels are able to keep up by utilising the economies of scale in a positive way.
