Finding the words to express your undying love for your mother is never easy. Even if you’re super close and speak on the phone for hours every day, it can still be hard to put your love into words on a card. So unless you’re a modern day Shakespeare, you probably end up putting the same generic, short & sweet message every year. But what if there’s a better way?

Not everyone is great with words, but that doesn’t mean you don’t care. So that’s why we’ve put together a list of clever hacks to help you express your love in this year’s card.

Pick one single memory

However old you are, chances are you’ve known your mum your whole life. So of course it’s difficult to summarise your love in a couple of sentences! So why bother? How about picking one fond memory from your childhood (or adulthood) and giving thanks for that instead?

For example, you could say: “Thank you for taking me on holiday to Tasmania when I was ten years old and for letting me eat fish and chips every day even though you don’t like it.”

A personal and happy memory is the perfect way to show your mum that you love her and appreciate all the things she has done for you during your lifetime, however big or small.

Use a quote or poem

Just because the words were written by someone else, it doesn’t mean they’re not meaningful and true. In fact, some flower companies have a list of famous quotes and poems for this exact reason.

From “ Motherhood: All love begins and ends there” by Robert Browning to “All that I am or ever hope to be, I owe to my angel Mother” by Abraham Lincoln, there is a quote already written that will sum up your feelings perfectly.

So when you buy this year’s Mothers’ Day Flowers, you can add a beautiful and relevant quote or poem to the card without having to agonise over finding the right words!

Pick your favourite trait

Much like singling out a specific happy memory, you could also pick out one trait about your mother that you love. For example, “I love you because you always snort when you laugh” or “I love you because you always let me pick the restaurant” or “I love you because you’re always there when I need your help”.

Again, keep it personal and specific to your mum or your relationship. It shows you know her, appreciate her and notice how much she does for you. Expressing your love and gratitude this way will fill her heart with joy!

In Summary…

Don’t beat yourself up if you’re not the most eloquent wordsmith on the planet. If your message is personal and relevant to your relationship with your mother, it will mean the world to her. Don’t try to sum up everything about her in one card because, quite frankly, it’s impossible. Instead, focus on single memories or traits, however big or small.

Even if it’s somebody else’s quote or poem, keep it personal and relevant and she will love every single word.
