Plan Your Perfect Australian Family Trip

  • Written by Roxana Oliver

Australia is definitely a country that offers a lot of options and fantastic destinations for family trips. The key is careful and timely planning, especially if you have small kids. For some families it is unimaginable to spend hours in a car just observing the landscape, while others prefer that to hoping in and out of the vehicle ever few miles. As for the sights, there are too many to count so before you choose your next destination take into consideration what it is your family likes doing the most and based on that plan the entire itinerary.

The adventure loving bunch

High energy kids and adventurous parents make the perfect ingredients for a fun filled Australian adventure. Now if you know that your children have energy to spare make sure that each stop includes an activity that will drain them as much as possible so that they can have a nice long rest in the car afterwards. You can include such great locations as Wilsons Promontory National Park in Victoria or Kosciuszko National Park in NSW. Both offer amazing kid friendly hikes and you can even squeeze in some beach time in Wilsons. Another great option for a fun packed family trip is visiting some of the exciting Gold Coast theme parks like Dream World and Wet’n’Wild.

Traveling with small children

As you know when you decide to go on the family trip with small children or even a baby it takes some additional planning. First of all not all locations are stroller friendly, so opting for quality baby wraps is always a great option. That way you can have your child with you at all times while exploring the great Australian scenery. Of course the destinations should be age adequate for the kids, so lots of shade and some kid-friendly activities are a must. As for the time spent in the car, a good car seat for kids is a must along with plenty of fluids and snacks to keep them hydrated. Don’t forget to plan some fun road games, and calculate in frequent restroom stops if your child is fresh out of the diapers. A great destination would be Byron Bay, NSW, it has a great selection of baby friendly accommodation as is known for boutique shopping so you can pick up a lot of things right there on the spot.

An educational trip

If your family loves exploring Australian cultural heritage or enjoys visiting museums, there are a lot of great options for the family trip. However even this, seemingly easily plannable trip has some additional considerations you shouldn’t overlook. Start with finding destinations that are suitable for you child’s age. From the available activities to interesting content and a lot of fun games to occupy their time. A trip like this requires a lot of stops so check out the available restaurants and accommodation so that all locations are easily accessible and you don’t have to drag your family around. In big cities parking can be quite tricky. A trip to Sydney will ensure a lot of great museum visits that can be supplemented with fun walks in the numerous parks around the city. On the other hand you could visit some of the famous historic sites like, Kakadu National Park and have your children learn about the history and tradition of Aboriginal people.

There you have it, you are all set for the perfect family trip in Australia, there is something for everyone and with the right planning you can cover a lot of ground, learn new things and expand your kids views of the world that surrounds them. The best thing being it is sure to get their heads out of the tablets and phones which for most parents would be considered a great success.
