LUXURY ESCAPES LAUNCHES 2018 SENIOR INTERN COMPETITION

  • Written by Romina Favero

Luxury Escapes today announces the launch of its 2018 Senior Intern Program, offering Australians aged 60+ the opportunity to intern at Luxury Escapes and win a luxury holiday of a lifetime to California, USA and Cabo, Mexico.

Coinciding with Victorian Seniors Month, the Senior Intern Program aims to support the Government’s plan to help older Australian employees stay in the workforce for longer.

The initiative will see the company commence a nationwide search for ten Senior Interns, who will undertake a week-long internship at Luxury Escapes’ headquarters in Melbourne. At the end of the week, a winner will be chosen by a panel of travel experts and flown to California, USA and Cabo, Mexico for a luxury holiday ‘assignment’.

The Senior Intern Program builds upon the inaugural 2016 competition where the company selected a Victorian couple Jenny and Dennis McCarthy as winners of a two-day internship and trip to Bali.

We are so impressed by Luxury Escapes’ commitment to our generation. Retirement is just the beginning for Australians, and we think it’s so important that retirees are exposed to the modern workforce. Luxury Escapes opened our eyes to just how much 9 to 5 jobs have changed,” said Jenny.

Australians are expected to live almost ten years longer than they were 50 years ago, and the Internship is a great way of proving that there are so many options for us to live our lives to the fullest,” she continued. “Luxury Escapes HQ was a fantastic place to work, not to mention our incredible trip that let us put to the test all the skills we learnt during our internship.”

Luxury Escapes’ Co-Founder and CEO, Adam Schwab, said the company was pleased to be expanding its Senior Intern Program in 2018, and simultaneously support this year’s Federal Budget, which announced a raft of measures to help older Australian employees with careers in the modern workforce.

Seniors throughout Australia have the opportunity to apply to become the Luxury Escapes Senior Intern. We pride ourselves on offering our team with a vibrant culture fostering inclusion, wellbeing and personal and professional development, and the program demonstrates to our interns how the workplace has changed over time. Our team will help them up-skill in social media and teach them how to create amazing content, among other fun activities like table tennis championships, in-house massages, unlimited Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, yoga and meditation classes.

We plan to leverage our 2.6 million-strong member base which has made Luxury Escapes Australia’s fastest growing travel company. This generation is influencing the global travel ecosystem, and we recognise that by tapping into this generation, we are creating value and wisdom for our business”, said Schwab.

The ten interns will be given a wardrobe to equip them for their week at Luxury Escapes’ headquarters. They will be dressed by iconic Australian brands Akubra, Sportscraft and STM Goods: attire fitting for when the winner accepts a trip of a lifetime to Cabo, Mexico and California, USA including San Francisco, Yosemite, South Lake Tahoe, Sonoma, Palm Springs, Los Angeles.

The interns will live in Melbourne for five days and stay at the newest Luxury Escapes partner hotel, The Savoy Hotel on Little Collins, which reopens this month after a multi-million dollar refurbishment, as the latest hotel in the TFE Hotels Collection, a portfolio of beautiful discovery hotels each with a sense of story, place and purpose.

Competition key dates:

  • 1 October – Competition launch

  • 22 October – Competition closes

  • 29 October to 2 November – Internship commences

  • 27 November to 10 December – Winner/s travel to Cabo, Mexico and California, USA, including San Francisco, Yosemite, South Lake Tahoe, Sonoma, Palm Springs, Los Angeles.
