Build Your Own Theatre: 6 Mistakes to Avoid

When set up correctly, a home theatre will instantly upgrade your home’s value and functionality. And considering the soaring costs of movie tickets and the stress of road traffic these days, watching the latest blockbuster films and popular TV programs at home surely is much more cost-efficient and enjoyable.

But a home theatre installation entails more resources than you think. You will need to invest a substantial amount of time, put in lots of effort, and of course, allocate enough money towards this project. Also, a successful home theatre setup requires the right know-how and the use of the proper tools so that the space can become the best place to get a superb viewing experience.

To ensure success, avoid these six common mistakes when setting up your home theatre:

1. Mounting your TV way above the ground

Human beings are not intended to constantly look up. Holding your head at a slight upward tilt for just an hour (or even less) is sure to cause pain in your neck and shoulders. Experts in ergonomics recommend mounting your television in a way that the centre of your gaze will land between the top edge and the top quarter of your television.

So depending on the height of your home theatre seats, your TV must be mounted between 90 cm and 150 cm off the ground. By following this, you will not just feel more comfortable, but also enjoy excellent picture quality.

2. Sitting too close or too far from the TV

The proximity of an object will change how you perceive it. Still, most homeowners forget this when setting up their home theatre. Sitting too close from your TV will decrease the perceived quality, while sitting too far will make it difficult to appreciate fine details.

Your home’s seating arrangement goes hand-in-hand with the size of your television. The optimum viewing distance is approximately 1.6 times your screen’s size. If, for instance, you have a 139.7-cm (55-inch) television, your seats must be 223.5 cm away from your TV screen.

3. Ignoring the use of TV antennas

TV antennas have come a long way – today, these can become your asset. With a digital TV antenna, you can finally say goodbye to a pay TV. When installed correctly, this antenna enables you to enjoy watching movies, TV shows, live sporting events, and other local channels for free, and for the same image and sound quality as a pay TV.

Your TV viewing experience can be ruined by some factors like the harsh weather conditions, interferences, and obstructions, but this can be avoided if you let a professional install your digital TV antenna. These antenna specialists have the right knowledge, skills, and tools to make sure that your antenna receives all the possible channels available in your area.

Also, they can provide you with solutions to prevent getting poor TV reception, such as letting lawn experts to trim or prune your overgrown hedges and trees as well as investing in regular pest control services to prevent house pests from gnawing on your cables and wires.

4. Letting too much natural light in

Lighting will have a huge effect on the image quality, so you must place your TV in the right spot. Don’t let sunlight directly hit your screen; do this by not positioning the TV opposite the window. It is also important to place enough drapes or blackout blinds to prevent light from coming in, even during sunny days.

5. Forgetting foot traffic

You don’t want people walking in front of you while you watch. Prevent foot traffic from ruining your TV viewing experience by moving the seats forward and making sure that there are other paths other TV viewers can use.

The location of the room’s door must also be considered. Make sure to position it in a spot where other viewers don’t have to walk in front of the TV screen each time they want to grab a popcorn or a beverage.

6. Setting up your home theatre on your own

This home renovation task will involve a lot of important considerations for it to become successful. So unless you have the right expertise and tools, you should let a professional install your home theatre.

Don’t treat it as an added expense; rather, look at it as a worthwhile investment because these professionals can take care of everything — from buying the right digital TV and other accessories, to installing your digital TV antenna, to setting up all the equipment you want for your home theatre.

So if you want to turn your spare guest room or the living room into your movie playhouse, don’t hesitate to call the best home theatre installers in your area now!
