WILEY X^® SPONSORED DRIVER CARL EDWARDS WINS SOUTHERN 500 AT DARLINGTON RACEWAY LABOR DAY WEEKEND

Edwards Overcomes Numerous Challenges and Abundance of Caution Flags for 25^th Career Sprint Cup Victory

Wiley X^® sponsored NASCAR driver Carl Edwards took the checkered flag September 6^th under the lights at South Carolina’s Darlington Raceway, earning the perennial favorite an important second victory in what has been a season marked by consistency.  Edwards notched his last win at the Coca Cola 600 back in May, but had six Top-10 finishes in his past seven races.  Still, he needed a second victory to assure himself a place in the Chase for the Sprint Cup “playoffs,” which begin in two weeks in Chicago.

Edwards’ win in the Southern 500 was far from easy or routine — and he gave much of the credit to his pit crew for putting him in position to pull off the exciting victory.  The race was interrupted by a record 18 caution flags, including a flat tire that put Edwards two laps behind the leaders somewhere around Lap 90.  As far along as Lap 140, Edwards still found himself bunched back in 36^th Place.  Yet, there he was near the end, pushing pole-sitter Brad Keselowski and defending Southern 500 winner Kevin Harvick^® (also sponsored by Wiley X) for the lead 40 laps from the end.   Edwards eventually gained the lead with 12 laps to go and held on to take his first-ever Southern 500 victory.  The win was not only notable for being Edwards’ second of the 2015 season, it also marked his 25^th career Sprint Cup Series win.

It was also a strong night for other Wiley X-sponsored drivers, with Joey Logano taking 4^th Place and Harvick rounding out the Top 5 finishers.

“Carl has been a model of consistency this season, representing both himself and Wiley X very well in every race,” said Wiley X Co-Owner Myles Freeman, Jr.  “Nearly every week, he’s been right there in the mix and challenging the world’s best drivers for the ultimate NASCAR prize.  It was great to see him earn this important second victory of the year and cement his spot in the Sprint Cup Series playoffs.  It was especially gratifying given how he had to overcome so many challenges and fight his way up from near the back of pack.  It was a hard-fought and well-deserved win,” added Freeman.
