Seattle, Wash. (Sept. 8, 2015) – K2 Sports, in cooperation with the Washington State Department of Ecology, has undertaken a comprehensive yearlong investigation of its former facility on Vashon Island, Washington.

While the investigation indicated that low levels of volatile organic chemicals (trichloroethane) exist on the Vashon Island site, researchers concluded that the areas of contamination have not spread beyond the site boundaries and are only found in areas of shallow groundwater.

Investigators were unable to identify the specific source of the chemicals on the site, or the timing of the releases. Prior to K2’s acquisition of the property, it was used for a welding and manufacturing repair shop. K2 Sports is committed to taking appropriate actions to address the findings.

K2 Sports’ Vice President of Research and Development Jim Vandergrift confirmed, “We are fully dedicated to ensure this piece of land is given the amount of attention it deserves to be rehabilitated.”

The full site characterization report, which is now subject to the Washington State Department of Ecology’s approval, can be found on the agency’s website (https://fortress.wa.gov/ecy/gsp/CleanupSiteDocuments.aspx?csid=12390).
