Edwards Overcomes Numerous Challenges and Abundance of Caution Flags for 25^th Career Sprint Cup Victory 

Wiley X^® sponsored NASCAR driver Carl Edwards took the checkered flag September 6^th under the lights at South Carolina’s Darlington Raceway, earning the perennial favorite an important second victory in what has been a season marked by consistency.  Edwards notched his last win at the Coca Cola 600 back in May, but had six Top-10 finishes in his past seven races.  Still, he needed a second victory to assure himself a place in the Chase for the Sprint Cup “playoffs,” which begin in two weeks in Chicago. 

Edwards’ win in the Southern 500 was far from easy or routine — and he gave much of the credit to his pit crew for putting him in position to pull off the exciting victory.  The race was interrupted by a record 18 caution flags, including a flat tire that put Edwards two laps behind the leaders somewhere around Lap 90.  As far along as Lap 140, Edwards still found himself bunched back in 36^th Place.  Yet, there he was near the end, pushing pole-sitter Brad Keselowski and defending Southern 500 winner Kevin Harvick^® (also sponsored by Wiley X) for the lead 40 laps from the end.   Edwards eventually gained the lead with 12 laps to go and held on to take his first-ever Southern 500 victory.  The win was not only notable for being Edwards’ second of the 2015 season, it also marked his 25^th career Sprint Cup Series win. 

It was also a strong night for other Wiley X-sponsored drivers, with Joey Logano taking 4^th Place and Harvick rounding out the Top 5 finishers.
