Most people own a USB stick, they are super convenient, and don’t take up much space at all, even when compared with a portable SSD. They have been the ideal solution for many a year now, however, it was inevitable that they would be superseded for a few reasons, of which you can surely relate.

They are still a perfect solution

Although they might not be the absolute pinnacle of storage solutions, with Cloud storage taking over more and more each day. They are still the go to tool for many people, especially if you have 2 machines close to each other and want to make a hard copy of data files that can be easily transferred in a matter of seconds. The same can’t be said for cloud computing, in all situations, consider trying to set up a bootable cloud disc…

The great thing is, that because Cloud computing is become ever more popular, this creates a money-making opportunity, or a cost saving one, for that matter because, consumers can now buy bulk USB sticks in Australia, so, whether you want to sell them on, or use as gifts for your customers, there is some real value to be had by buying a job lot.

It probably is possible using something like a Raspberry mini pc, but that’s kind of advanced stuff that the average person just wouldn’t medal with. USB sticks are such a vital part of most people’s days, that even if they don’t need to pack one, one will still go in the day bag, for good measure.

Convenient

Because USB sticks can be really, small, some even come as small as the size of your fingernail, they are superb when it comes to saving desk space, or valuable space in your laptop bag, that enabled you to leave you portable hard drive behind, leaving enough space for perhaps, a diary, or another sandwich… the perfect motivator.

Be sure to check the quality

The trouble is, because they tend to be small, they end up at the bottom of bags, on the floor, easily forgotten, perhaps leaving the door wide open to stolen data. There is that, and the fact that when the market boomed, there were so many cheaply made USB sticks thrown out, in a less than executive manner, to the consumer market, many people never really got to use their USB stick to its fullest potential.

Limitations

Apart from them being small, and they can be susceptible to getting dust and other bits of dirt and grit in them, if you look after your USB drive, it should last you a lifetime, it’s not like there are any moving parts that might require maintenance, there is very little to go wrong. However, the major hold back is capacity, granted you can get USB sticks that can store hundreds of GBs of data but, from a practical perspective, the larger the USB storage size is, the more chance you have of losing a larger amount of data, if the drive goes astray.
