MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (June 2, 2015) – Visit Myrtle Beach is pleased to announce Salute from the Shore is returning for its sixth year, presenting a special opportunity for South Carolina beachgoers to salute our military on the 4th of July.
Since 2010, millions have gathered on the beaches of South Carolina in patriotic attire to wave flags and demonstrate their gratitude to America’s finest for their bravery and commitment to protecting our freedom.
In prior years, the event was highlighted with a flyover of military aircraft – F-16s from Shaw Air Force Base in 2011 and 2012, and a C-17 from Charleston AFB in 2010. In 2012, the F-16s were joined for a portion of the journey by vintage military aircraft with veterans aboard.
Budget cuts prevented military support of the flyover in recent years; however, the tribute will continue again this year with a flyover of vintage military aircraft, as well as the much-anticipated return of the F-16s from Shaw Air Force Base.
The Flyover will begin at 1:00 p.m. over Cherry Grove and proceed south over Myrtle Beach.
The vintage military aircraft will be visible over South Carolina beaches beginning after the F-16s. Please refer to the website for more exact timing as various factors including wind speed and aircraft type will determine when the vintage aircraft arrive at different locations along the coast. Vintage military aircraft will fly active duty armed forces and veterans who are able to view salutes on the beach from the air.
Salute from the Shore urges visitors to salute by wearing and waving red, white and blue on the beaches during the flyover. Salute from the Shore also encourages participants to share their stories about why they love America and those that protect it by posting their own video and images of the event on social networks to be seen by American Armed Forces deployed throughout the world.
Participants can share their stories at www.salutefromtheshore.org, Facebook www.facebook.com/SalutefromtheShore, Twitter @July4Salute, #SalutefromtheShore and Instagram @July4salute, #SalutefromtheShore.
