NEW WORLD FLOOD KICK’S OFF 4^th ANNUAL THANKSGIVING EXTRAVAGANZA “COMMUNITY FEAST”

New World Flood sets out to feed families in need this Thanksgiving

LANSING, Mich. (Nov. 16, 2015) – We are quickly approaching Thanksgiving where families all over the United States will sit down with their families and enjoy a meal.  Unfortunately for some struggling families in Michigan this year that is not a possibility.  Todd Duckett and New World Flood would like to do their part to change that for some of these families.  New World Flood is calling upon others to assist them in their efforts to raise fund for their 4^th annual “Community Feast” event to bring relief and hope to struggle Michigan families.  

The mission of New World Flood’s Community Feast: To distribute frozen turkeys and trimmings to families, with children, in need in both the greater Lansing and Kalamazoo communities.  New World Flood have been raising funds in October and November to allow families in need the opportunity to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner at home together.  Turkeys are also donated to other local hunger relief organizations.

One in four families throughout the state are living paycheck to paycheck.  Todd Duckett and New World Flood wants to impact the Lansing and Kalamazoo communities this Thanksgiving through their Annual “Community Feast: event. The goal this year is to feed 2500 families in Lansing and Kalamazoo for Thanksgiving. They have currently raised 65% of their fundraising goal to allow them to give away Turkeys and Thanksgiving dinners to Michigan families in need

Individuals and community supporters are also invited to donate as part of the “For $30 You Can feed a Family for Thanksgiving” online campaign at www.NewWorldFlood.org.

New World Flood was born out of a speaking engagement for Todd “TJ” Duckett, retired NFL athlete, organized by Heather Sheets at Olivet High School (Olivet, MI) on May 17, 2011 to promote community service and giving among the students. The event involved an all-school assembly and continued on to an English class where students discussed community service projects that they were participating in that were inspired by "Warriors Don't Cry" by Melba Pattillo Beals. The conversation and engagement with the students generated such excitement, a need to sustain the connections and energy of the students was created. Out of this New World Flood was born with the goal of providing a forum by which young citizens could use their positive energy to promote giving and service around the world.

New World Flood believes that citizens can be change agents in their communities by using education and service as a means to sustain the overall welfare of their environment. New World Flood seeks to help citizens develop a sense of responsibility for the overall well-being of their communities and help them use their dreams as a means to drive their motivation to make direct impact on their communities. By focusing on youth, community, education, and service New World Flood seeks to provide a mechanism by which citizens continually grow through their purpose and community engagement. New World Flood is an entity by which every individual can make a difference in their communities, because a single raindrop is the beginning of a flood.

About Todd Duckett

Kalamazoo, Michigan gave us a true champion in Todd Jeffrey (“TJ”) Duckett. A champion on competitive fields of play, as well as one who believes in improving the lives of others. Duckett was a three-year starter for Loy Norrix High School Knights football and was named an All-American athlete, as well as Parade Magazine and Rivalnet’s Player of the Year. He also was a two-year first-team all-state as a linebacker and was near the top of every recruiting service in the country. Duckett was awarded a football scholarship to Michigan State University in 1999. As a Spartan, he studied Communications and earned All-Big Ten Conference Honors as a Junior, still holding the record as sixth all-time leading rusher in the school’s history.

After his career at Michigan State University, Duckett was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft, leading a great lineup as part of their daunting rushing offense from 2003-2005. Duckett was traded in 2006 to the Washington Redskins before returning to his home state in 2007 when he signed with the Detroit Lions. From March of 2008 to August of 2009, Duckett served as a short-yardage back for the Seattle Seahawks, but found himself approaching an entirely new career path upon his departure from the grid iron.

Duckett’s passion and drive also lead him to co-found New World Flood. New World Flood is a Michigan non-profit organization that believes citizens can be change agents in their communities by using education and service as a means to sustain the overall welfare of their environment.
