A guide to house numbers in Australia

  • Written by: Simon McIntyre

House numbers are more important than you might imagine. They help friends and family find your home, signal for emergency services, and ensure that your mail and parcels make it to your door. Aside from all that, they also help set the tone, make an impression with new visitors, and help to upgrade the look of your home. So, how do you choose the right numbers for your home, keep reading to find out.

Available Materials for House Numbers Australia

The first thing to consider when looking for house numbers Australia is to figure out what material you like best and what material is going to work best for your home and particular needs. There are a range of house number materials that you can use:

- Aluminium

- Brass, Copper and Bronze

- Vinyl

- Tile

- Curb House numbers Australia

The first and very common material is aluminium. This metal is often used for outdoor furniture and for things that are going to be exposed to harsh climates. This material does not erode quickly, it does nut rust, and it is great for creating sharp lines.

Brass, copper and bronze are other options in terms of metal numbers. These are going to be very heavy metals, they are going to be very durable and long lasting, but they can also be very expensive. They do look expensive, however, and may be just what you are looking for in your home.

Vinyl is another option. These are often in the form of permanent stickers that are going to be best applied to a very flat, very clean surface. These are not going to have the dimension that a raised number will have, but they do get the job done.

Wooden house numbers are a quaint option if you want something easy and simple. These do degrade quite easily over time, however, and you are going to have to repaint, varnish or seal to keep the integrity of the wood over time.

Tile is a gorgeous option if you want something simple and elegant that still packs a punch. Tile numbers can be moved around easily, they provide their own contrast, and they are easily replaced.

The last option are curb numbers. These are not numbers that you hang up or affix to anything, but rather, they are numbers that are painted directly on the curb outside your house. These may be a great addition to numbers on your house as well to increase overall visibility of your home.

Colour of Your House Numbers Australia

The next thing to consider is the colour of the numbers. Brightly coloured numbers are fun, but they can also provide necessary contrast to help make your numbers highly visible on your home. Make sure you keep these factors in mind:

- Colour

- Font

- Mounting surface

- Placement

These are all important when it comes to your numbers and where they are placed. You want to ensure that they are a contrasting colour that is going to stand out against the area where they are placed. You also want to make sure the font is large, and readable from the street. It is best if your mounting surface is smooth and a contrasting colour or texture of your numbers. Lastly, you need to ensure that the numbers are visible from all angles and that there is nothing obstructing them.

Taking the time to keep these factors in mind can make all the difference. These tips can help make your house numbers fully visible, easy to read, and easy to recognize so that anyone coming to your home can find it quickly and easily.
