WILEY X, ^® INC. SUPPORTS SPORTS EYE SAFETY AWARENESS MONTH THIS SEPTEMBER

Prevent Blindness Reminds Youth and Athletes of All Ages the Importance of Protecting Against

Sports-Related Eye Injuries

Every year there are thousands of eye injuries in America related to participation in sports.  They could happen during a game of basketball, soccer, tennis, racquetball or any other athletic activity, but these eye injuries have one thing in common.  They very likely could have been prevented by simply wearing proper protective eyewear designed and safety rated for the purpose.

This fact is a primary focus of Sports Eye Safety Awareness Month, a program of Prevent Blindness dedicated to increasing awareness of sports-related eye injuries and the steps that can be taken to protect the vision of athletes of all ages.  As a leading provider of protective eyewear for American soldiers, workers, professional fishermen, NASCAR drivers and others, Wiley X^®, Inc. stands firmly behind this important effort and its goal of reducing eye injuries across our great nation. Sports Eye Safety Awareness Month runs from September 1-30, 2015, providing a wealth of information and resources available to Americans through the organization’s website at PreventBlindess.org.

“The best and easiest way to prevent sports-related eye injuries is to wear proper protective eyewear — not just some of the time, but all the time,” said Wiley X Co-Owner Myles Freeman, Jr.  “Still, for a variety of reasons, this often isn’t the case.  There are two ways to change this.  The first is to create protective eyewear that not only protects the wearer’s vision, but also provides a level of comfort, style and visual acuity athletes need to perform their best.  The second is to increase awareness among the public of just how common — and preventable — sports-related eye injuries are,” added Freeman.

Wiley X offers a full range of standard and polarized eyewear styles that meet ANSI-Z87.1 High Velocity and High Mass Impact Safety standards for OSHA-rated protection.  Wiley X is the only premium sunglass brand with this level of protection in every adult style it makes.  Perhaps more importantly, all Wiley X sunglass styles are designed to deliver a comfortable, secure fit and sharp vision under a range of conditions.  Almost all Wiley X styles are also Rx-ready, providing a comfortable, fashionable eye-protection option for people who need corrective lenses.  Wiley X’s advanced DIGIFORCE™ digital Rx lens technology enhances prescription accuracy and clarity, providing clear vision over the widest possible field of view for sports activities.

Wiley X also recently launched a full children’s Sport Protective Eyewear line called Youth Force™, which meets the stringent ASTM F803 sport protective eyewear standards. Wiley X’s Youth Force line features bold colors, graphics and cutting edge designs that today’s youth want to wear both while playing sports and playing with friends.  Four models — the WX Flash, WX Victory, WX Fierce and WX Gamer —meet the fit, comfort and vision protection needs of a wide range of boys and girls.  In addition, all Youth Force glasses are designed to quickly change from spectacles to goggles and back again with the simple push of a button.  The Youth Force line features an Rx-ready design, making it ideal for young athletes who need prescription lenses along with advanced eye protection on the field or court.
