CINCINNATIFaruki Ireland & Cox P.L.L. (www.ficlaw.com) has hired experienced litigator Matthew Singer as its newest attorney. Singer has been working in Chicago and Cleveland much of the past seven years, and is returning to Cincinnati to join the downtown litigation firm. Singer’s strong connection to Cincinnati has brought him back home with a desire to invest in the community.

I’ve always loved Cincinnati, particularly because of the wonderful people and all of the memories I’ve made here. I knew that, by coming back, I would be returning to a place where I could rebuild old relationships, make new ones and be a part of a highly-regarded law firm committed to this community,” Singer says.

"We are thrilled to add an outstanding colleague to our team in Cincinnati," says Jeff Cox, FI&C's recruiting partner. "Matt brings tremendous experience and work ethic and we anticipate our clients will enjoy working with Matt as much as we do."

Singer graduated from the University of Cincinnati where he received a baseball scholarship and captained the UC baseball team for three years. He still holds offensive records at UC and is a member of the James P. Kelly UC Athletics Hall of Fame.

After graduation, Singer played professional baseball for five years as part of teams in the New York Yankees organization, and for the Florence Freedom. He had always considered attending law school during his time in the minor leagues, and did so in 2005 at the University of Cincinnati College of Law. Singer graduated with honors, and served as Editor-in-Chief for the University of Cincinnati Law Review during his time there.

Singer went on to gain extensive experience in business litigation in his seven years after graduating law school. Following graduation, he served as a law clerk for Judge Philip P. Simon of the United States District Court in the Northern District of Indiana. He then worked for Jones Day in the firm's Chicago office as an associate with the Business and Tort Litigation Group. While at Jones Day, he litigated complex matters in state and federal courts relating to healthcare fraud, contract disputes, energy matters, civil rights and business torts. Most recently, and before returning to Cincinnati, Singer clerked for the Honorable Judge Karen Nelson Moore in the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, where he worked on appellate opinions and bench memoranda for Judge Moore in civil and criminal appellate matters.
