Blue Mountains fusion dream for sale

  • Written by Helen Hull

A chef looking for a change of pace, or someone keen to fulfill a lifetime dream could be attracted to top Katoomba restaurant, Pins on Lurline, and its magnificent Federation home and guest house which are up for sale.

The unique property,
built in 1898 by local businessman H. A. Bundy has seen much change over the years having operated as a private school, guesthouse and as one of the first churches in the area.

Purchased by Blue Mountains restaurateurs
Simon and Keiko Kjelgaard in 2012, the Japanese wife/Scottish husband team relocated Pins And Noodles to the new address to create Pins On Lurline. The iconic brand originated in Katoomba Street some 20 years ago and moved to Leura village before settling into to the idyllic location. Seating some 60 patrons it ranks #1 out of 84 on Trip Advisor for restaurants in the tourist destination.

“Personal circumstances see the couple relocating back to Japan,” Gunning Sales Agent Tom Speakman said. “They love the property and it is a reluctant sale.”

Located on the corner of Lurline and Warwick Street, it features self-contained garden holiday cottage, Keiko’s Nest as well as the private residence with three bedrooms, study and large galley style kitchen.

“There is great potential to utilise the grounds of the property for special events including birthdays and weddings. The Zen garden is a unique edition to the property made by the current owners,” Mr Speakman said.

“Low interest rates allow business operators to take chances on properties like this and it is a great opportunity to get out of the city. Coupled with the decline in the Australian dollar, which is making destinations like this close to Sydney more attractive to domestic and international travellers, this represents a unique investment.”

The property at 132 Lurline Street, Katoomba will be open for inspection on 27 February from 9.00am to 12.00pm and Expressions of Interest Close 8 March, 2016.
