Women Who Code Launches Network In Greenville, South Carolina

Director Pamela Wood Browne Is Excited To Spearhead This Initiative to Provide Education and Networking Opportunities To Women In the Local Tech Community

Greenville, SC, October 9, 2015 — Today Women Who Code (WWCode) - an international 501(c)3 whose mission is to provide support and education for women in the technology industry, is proud to announce the launch of their Greenville, South Carolina Network. Pamela Wood Browne has been chosen to act as the Director for the group, and has already expressed her enthusiasm for the possibilities that this organization can bring to the area. The inaugural event has been been scheduled for Tuesday October 13th, a date that corresponds with Ada Lovelace Day, an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). 

Pamela Wood Browne is a well known figure in the technology field, that specializes in communication support and content management systems. She has also been involved in several nonprofit endeavors including “Bike Walk Greenville,” and the UUCLB.

When asked about her new role as Network Director, Browne noted that, "I'm excited to be bringing WWCode to Greenville in order to help develop support opportunities for women to learn coding skills and increase the number of women participating in our growing tech hub.” She went on to say that, “I think women should take the lead in developing innovative and flexible training programs and career paths. It's a win-win for women and the tech sector."

She has been able to secure support for the inaugural event from OpenWorks, a community run work and event space in the middle of downtown Greenville focused on providing an open environment for creation, collaboration and action. The date of the event is set for October 13th, and Browne already has a list of distinguished speakers including Katherine Wakefield, Jill Rose, and Holly Goen. There is also a second event, a hack night, planned just 5 days later, showing the enthusiasm that is already inspiring the community.

Alaina Percival, the CEO and Board Chair of Women Who Code was enthusiastic about the network launch and the prospect of bringing WWCode to the burgeoning tech hub of Greenville, South Carolina. “Pamela Browne is an excellent organizer and an inspiring woman. I know that she is going to be able to bring a lot of women in the area together, helping some enter the world of technology, while providing support to those who are already in the field.”
