HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, BISHOP DR. CORLETTA VAUGHN! A Preacher of Detroit Reality Star To Celebrate 30-Year Anniversary in the Ministry With Gala Benefit

LOS ANGELES -- Reality star and faith leader Bishop Dr. Corletta Vaughn is really having a great year! On Sunday, March 6th, presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton stopped by her church during a campaign stop in Detroit. For Bishop Vaughn, Secretary Clinton’s visit was not only an honor, but a nod for her decades of service in the ministry and work on behalf of women’s rights and women empowerment. During Black History Month, Bishop Dr. Vaughn kicked off festivities, celebrating her 30-year anniversary as the presiding pastor with Holy Ghost Cathedral.

To commemorate the milestone in her career, the faith leader is having a big anniversary party on Friday, April 8, 2016 to benefit the Corletta J. Vaughn Foundation.  The foundation supports girls and their female caregivers, through specialized literacy programs —that is, the Pink Academy and the Soar Summits, which are geared to take any woman from "Nowhere to Everywhere." The event will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at the Northwest Activities Center, located at 18100 Meyers Rd Detroit, MI 48235.

A fixture in the Detroit community, Bishop Dr. Vaughn became nationally known as a cast member on Oxygen’s popular reality spin-off, “Preachers of Detroit.” The reality show gives viewers a glimpse into the lives of prominent preachers from the Detroit area. She’s also one of the most prominent women of faith, serving as the senior pastor of the Holy Ghost Cathedral, and the presiding bishop of Go Tell It Evangelistic Ministry Worldwide. She serves more than 70 churches across the country, and more than 1,300 ministries globally.

“It’s been said that you’re the luckiest woman in the world if you’re born in the United States. Still, in this country, women face the glass ceiling, wage inequality, sexual harassment and abuse. I hope my foundation is a launch pad for girls to be the best they can be, no matter their circumstances or socio-economic backgrounds,” said Bishop Dr. Vaughn.

Bishop Dr. Vaughn has functioned as a spiritual mother to thousands of women, counseling them on a variety of issues, including self-esteem, abuse, abandonment, relationships and broken promises. Understanding the importance of father figures in a young girl’s life, she penned the 232-page, self-help book, “Teach Your Daughters to Fly,” (Next Century Publishing; on sale May 19, 2015; ISBN-10:162903830X; ISBN-13: 978-1629038308; $18.95 US). It gives fathers and single mothers the right tools to raise their daughters and prepare them for greatness.  The book offers readers the tools needed to prevent “daddy issues” for daughters, which can lead to “father hunger,” and ultimately affect self-esteem and self-worth well into womanhood.

A trailblazer and pioneer, she was called to the ministry in 1974, and has been opening doors for women in leadership positions in the ministry every since.  She is Detroit’s first African-American female bishop, and has been serving as a woman of the cloth for more than 40 years. She’s a strong advocate for women’s rights, gender equality, and women’s empowerment.

Bishop Dr. Vaughn shattered the stained-glass ceiling of the church world when she became a female preacher against her Baptist church’s strict rules. Against the odds, she was consecrated as a bishop in 1995, and today she’s the senior pastor of the Holy Ghost Cathedral in Detroit, Michigan, and the presiding bishop of Go Tell It Evangelistic Ministry Worldwide. She serves more than 70 churches across the country, and more than 1,300 ministries globally.

Bishop Dr. Vaughn is a cast member on Oxygen’s popular reality spin-off, “Preachers of Detroit,” which premiered on February 15, 2015, giving viewers a glimpse into the lives of prominent preachers from the Detroit area. The show spotlights the faith leaders’ place of worship as well as their home life with family and friends. The show also addresses the controversial issue of females holding leadership positions in the church.

A life coach and motivational speaker, Bishop Dr. Vaughn is a graduate of William Tyndale Bible College (BRE) with a bachelor’s in Pastoral Studies and a master’s degree from Oral Roberts University in Post-Secondary Education Administration. She also received an honorary doctorate in Practical Theology from BAI University (Benin City Nigeria, formerly Christ for the Nations). She’s currently working on a doctorate’s degree in Psychology (Gender Diversity) at North Central University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

She is the mother of two beautiful daughters – that is, Shannon and Apprille – and the spiritual mother to thousands globally in the ministry and business.
