BURLINGTON, Vt. — Two Vermont-based entrepreneurs have founded the first cannabis-dedicated media platform in the state, starting with the launch of Heady Vermont, a news and culture site that analyzes and follows pot developments in Vermont and the surrounding region.

“The Vermont media's done a fantastic job of covering statehouse developments and cannabis news,” said Monica Donovan, managing partner and publisher.

Editor-in-Chief Eli Harrington added, “We sensed a need for deeper coverage that can evolve with the interests and needs of Vermonters as we move towards legalization.”

Heady Vermont produces and publishes daily news and media content on its site HeadyVermont.com — including in-depth features, guest op-eds and third party listings. In addition to content and media creation, Heady Vermont promotes community cannabis events and education.

"Heady Vermont is all at once newsworthy, enjoyable and thought-provoking, calling for accountability and fairness in a growth industry that frequently needs to check in with itself," said Donovan. "There exists a highly diverse variety of interests and positions at stake in the cannabis community. I think this is a great chance to give voice to the chorus making up the emerging cannabis scene in Vermont."

Donovan, from Pittsford, New York, adopted Vermont in 2008. She has degrees in Visual Media and Business Management from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and seven years of content production, feature writing and editing experience, in addition to having launched, marketed and managed two successful photography brands since 2006. She is Heady Vermont's managing partner, publisher and creative director.

Harrington, an eight-generation Vermonter, came to cannabis media full-time after six months of in-depth cannabis writing, activism and research in Vermont with a personal blog, and after five years experience as a social entrepreneur specializing in communications, digital media and international relations. He graduated from Brandeis University where he received degrees in International & Global Studies and Journalism Studies. He is Heady Vermont’s editor-in-chief and general manager.

Donovan and Harrington plan to gradually add more content to the site in coming weeks and expand Heady Vermont's media outreach and community efforts. Between the State House legalization debate, election season and a rapidly emerging Northeast cannabis scene, it's a safe bet they'll have no shortage of fodder to choose from.
