Unprecedented new spikes push boundaries of track performance

Goleta, Calif. (March 10, 2016) — Once again, HOKA ONE ONE® (a division of Deckers Brands NYSE: DECK) is breaking the mold—this time, on the track. Rather than settle for the traditional trajectory of middle and long distance track spike shoe design, HOKA ONE ONE has introduced the much-anticipated Rocket MD and Rocket LD with unique performance-oriented features.

The limited edition Rocket spikes deliver revolutionary protection and propulsion for track athletes looking to increase turnover and finish strong. After seasons of diligent wear-testing and refining with HOKA’s world-class runners, the Rocket MD and LD have become the go-to spike shoes for Olympian Leo Manzano, national 5,000-meter champion Nicole Tully and other elite HOKA athletes.

“Our new Rocket spikes bring a specialized approach to the track—similar to the way ski tuners, bike mechanics, and race car pit crews view performance gear. We’re pushing boundaries with the design of the Rocket MD and LD,” Jean Luc Diard, HOKA ONE ONE co-founder and VP of innovation. “Our athletes are contributing to our original dream of making running shoes that make running and racing more fun, to help people fly over the ground.”

The Rocket MD features an innovative spike plate with Scaevus Symmetry—an asymmetrical design for performance on left turns. Coupled with HOKA’s signature early meta-rocker geometry, this encourages athletes to lean in around corners and fly down the straightaways. At 4.5 ounces, the Rocket MD excels in distances from the 400-meters up to the 1500-meters or mile.

The Rocket LD, weighing just 4.3 ounces, features a foam midsole, supportive arch and a horseshoe-shaped, four-spike plate with the rocker geometry technology unique to HOKA running shoes. Designed for longer distance track races, it excels in races from 1500-meters through 10,000-meters.

“HOKA now has training- and competition-ready shoes for all athletes, from world-class trail runners scaling mountains in the Speedgoat and Olympic track athletes to high school track stars and age-group recreational joggers signing up for an all-comer’s mile race in the new Clayton,” said HOKA ONE ONE President Wendy Yang. “As we continue to expand our line with innovative new products, we still strive to deliver the the same excellence in our core products to the HOKA fans who’ve been with us since the start.”

The limited edition Rocket MD and LD spikes are available at 24 select running stores across the U.S. now; www.hokaoneone.com for more information. The Rocket MD retails for $80 and the LD for $80.
