Hallways, Turn the Forgettable into Unforgettable

  • Written by Olivia Stuckey

Houzz polled their community of homeowners and home professionals and found that more than a third of respondents overlook their hallway when renovating or decorating (35%), despite often being one of the first things we see when walking into a house.

We saw from the 2018 Houzz & Home Australia Study that in 2017, kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms were the most popular rooms to renovate, so this poll result comes as no surprise. However, there are many inexpensive and quick ways to spruce up your hallway, making it pleasant for you and memorable for visitors walking through the house,” says Vanessa Walker, Editor at Houzz Australia.

See below for tips on improving your hallway from home renovating and design site, Houzz:

Engaging artworks: Striking art at the end of a hallway may have guests excited for what’s to come, while softer works will have a calming effect. Whichever you choose, artworks help personalise your home and tell a story as visitors journey from one end to the other.

Beautiful rugs: Add a touch of grandeur to your hallway with a long rug that hugs the room from end-to-end. Photos on Houzz show that deep blues, royal reds and dark browns will provoke a sense of opulence, whereas creams and baby pinks hint playfulness and a sense of whimsy.

Captivating pendants: Some hallways only see sunlight as the front door opens and closes, so light up the space with unique pendants that will cast all sorts of beautiful shadows. Try creating a warming effect with light bulbs that illuminate the room with a yellow tone so you can start relaxing as soon as you get home.
