There is a well known saying and it is ‘your health is your wealth’ and it is a sound statement to make and it is advice that we should all live by. We are so caught up in trying to climb the corporate ladder that our only end goal is to make that higher salary and to get that big house, but at what price. It’s no good having all of that money and all of that power if you’re lying in a hospital bed because your stress levels are ridiculously high and your body is suffering both physically and mentally. No amount of money can replace the peace of mind that everyone requires when it comes to their overall health outcomes. One important aspect that many of us frequently overlook is our eyesight and we very much take it for granted.

Think to yourself what you would do tomorrow if you lost your eyesight and it doesn’t bear thinking about at all. The number of people who go for regular eyesight tests is decreasing every single year and there is a lot going on in and behind those eyes that you might not be aware of. If you are experiencing frequent headaches and you’re finding it very difficult to watch television or read a book then it’s highly likely that there is an issue with your eyesight and you need to be looking for solutions. There are a number of options like spectacles or contact lenses that you can get from Microprism Optics as well as the best advice possible. There are a number of things that you can do to maintain your current eye health and the following are just some of those.

  • Eat the right food - Providing protection for your eyes begins with the food that you put on your plate. Omega 3 fatty acid, zinc and vitamins C and E are incredibly good for age-related vision problems. Eat as many green leafy vegetables as you can and enjoy salmon and tuna at least once or twice a week. Keep eating those eggs, make sure that you are enjoying fresh fruit especially citrus fruits and get back to the gym.

  • Sunglasses & safety eyewear - We get our fair share of sunshine here in Australia and we are truly lucky but you need to be wearing the right kind of sunglasses that can protect your eyes from ultraviolet rays. Too much exposure to this can lead to cataracts and other eye degeneration problems. You should always be using safety eyewear when you’re doing jobs around your house or if you are working at your job. If you are a sporting kind of person then take steps to protect your eyes so that you don’t get struck by a ball which can cause a major eye injury.

It’s difficult to stay away from a computer screen because it is part and parcel of doing our jobs but if you stare at the computer screen for too long it can lead to eye strain, dry eyes, headaches and neck and back pain.
