Starting a new relationship is complicated. There is so much pressure to put your best image forward, but you never know what aspects your potential soul mate will appreciate. If you plan a first date, your choices are heavily judged because this person has little else to consider. It isn’t fair, but your decision on what to do on a first date will have a lot to do with whether there is going to be a date number two. There is no sure-fire strategy to impress, but it is not such a bad idea to play it safe the first time. Choose something you think they will like, shows you in a good light, and provides opportunities for conversation and fun. Here are a few things you might consider.

  1. Fine Dining: Everyone eats, you may not know what your new friend likes to eat, but the odds are good that a high-end restaurant is going to have something that makes them go mmm. For maximum effect, choose a location with a view like Catalina in Sydney. Going out for dinner may seem old-fashioned. But it is an old standby because it provides an unbeatable opportunity to dress up nice, have an uninterrupted conversation, a few drinks, and share an enjoyable experience.

  2. Spa: Psychology is a big part of bonding, and a bonding experience is what you want to happen. Having a couples massage, or similar treatment at a spa, will be sure to connect your time together with a pleasant sensual experience. It is essential to follow the spa visit with a sit-down opportunity like lunch or at least coffee. There might not be enough time to talk at the spa.

  3. Outdoor Movie: There are lots of cheap video projectors these days. If you have a nice yard and good weather, why not try an outdoor movie night. You can get cosy chairs and blankets, and you can even have it catered. Click here for dental care information.

  4. Hike: a nice walk in a beautiful location is another way to spend time together and have a good conversation in a beautiful environment. Packing along a gourmet picnic will make it even better. Choose a location that doesn’t require too much physical fitness. The goal is to have a nice time, not an excuse to do some cardio.

  5. Cooking Class: A cooking class is the kind of thing where you can learn something useful, but it isn’t necessary to do it well. Doing something together for the first time will allow you to discover how your partner is to work with. During the class, there will be plenty of opportunities to share anecdotes and hopefully a few laughs.

Going on a first date should be a fun experience, and the more you are enjoying yourself, the better it will go for you. Confidence is sexy, don’t try too hard to be someone else. Things that will help are: showing up on time, being clean, appropriate clothing, smelling nice, and friendly behaviour. Ask questions about your date and answer questions about yourself, but don’t do too much of either. Also, stay positive; your first date is no time for negativity.
