It serves as CUHK's campus in Shenzhen and extends CUHK's educational brand into the GBA.

To support the national GBA development strategy, CUHK and CUHK-Shenzhen have prioritised medical collaboration since 2018 through the establishment of the School of Medicine at CUHK-Shenzhen and the development of a comprehensive teaching hospital. The two campuses will maintain close strategic coordination in management and development. while continuing collaboration in teaching, research and talent cultivation.

I will devote my full efforts to fostering deep-level synergy between the two medical schools across education, research and clinical innovation to achieve a powerful '1 + 1 > 2' effect. This appointment will enable CU Medicine to further expand its clinical data and translational research platforms, reinforcing Hong Kong's position as an international hub for medical innovation. Through close collaboration between the two campuses, we aim to align with the national "Healthy China" agenda and the Greater Bay Area's innovation development strategy, jointly building a globally influential hub for medical innovation and talent development."

This strategic cross-boundary appointment reflects the forward-looking strategic vision and holistic perspective of both Hong Kong and Shenzhen. CU Medicine has a strong foundation in medical education, clinical services, frontier research and healthcare innovation, while Shenzhen offers a vibrant innovation ecosystem and significant opportunities for clinical research and technology translation.

By serving concurrently as dean of both medical schools, Professor Chiu will help align and complement the development strategies of the two institutions, strengthen communication and coordination, capitalise on the unique advantages of Hong Kong and Shenzhen, support the advancement of the School of Medicine at CUHK-Shenzhen toward greater internationalisation and academic excellence, and expand CUHK's footprint in healthcare innovation.

This initiative not only serves as a key measure to align with the national GBA strategy and support the implementation of the "Healthy China" agenda, but also represents a visionary, epoch-making alignment with the global frontier of medicine.
