Students Pull “Wagon Train of Food” to Beat Hunger

St. Louis, MO – The College School’s “Wagon Train of Food” will make its annual trek through Webster Groves bound for the food pantry at Emmanuel Episcopal Church over a mile away this Friday, November 20 at 8:30AM.

At its heart, the Wagon Train is a food drive, collecting non-perishable foods for donation to Emmanuel Episcopal’s Emergency Food Center. For the students, the Wagon Train is a four-week lesson in persuasive writing, presentation skills, poster design, counting and graphing and compassion. This year’s drive marks the 28th annual collection for our Second and Third Grade students, and school-wide classes are in fierce competition to top the 4,330 cans collected in 2014.

The Wagon Train has become an annual event because, “It’s our way of connecting our students with the realization that need and hunger exist in their own community”, shares Assistant Head of School Kevin Navarro.  He adds, “if you’ve been part of it, you’ve seen the pride and satisfaction on the faces of the children when they reach their destination and begin to unload their humble but bountiful offering”.
