Prince Albert To Open Monaco Fight AIDS Auction With Designs Of Spiros Kontakis

ATHENS — Greek Designer Spiros Kontakis will join 50 of the globe's trending artists and designers along with their featured works at the Monaco Fight Aids Auction Gala, hosted by Prince Albert and Princess Stéphanie on December 1, 2015 in Monte Carlo. This is Kontakis' second invitation by curator Denis Taranto on behalf of the royal family to participate in the fundraiser marking World AIDS Day. Spiros Kontakis transports the ordinariness of furniture and objects to a surreal and wondrous dream world: "I attempt to create a dream-like effect in a world where we coexist with the object as it moves throughout our space, almost as if it existed before we even discovered it," said Kontakis. Each of Kontakis' unique works is designed and manufactured in limited number by hand chosen artisans in Greece.

Spiros Kontakis started Kontaki Design in 2012 following more than decade working in London and Athens as a musician and songwriter. In the short time since emerging on the design scene, his stunning works have been featured in promotional ads for Spiderman III and the James Bond film Skyfall, commissioned by Athens-based boutique hotel Fresh Hotel, and purchased by prominent collectors including Helene Nougaro of Galerie Helene Nougaro (Paris), Les Miserables author Jean-Marc Natel (Paris) and renowned Middle East Gallerist and owner of Vivre, Rima Sauma (Beirut). Recent exhibitions include Maison Objet, Paris (2015), May Design Series, London (2015), Design for Life, 2015, Italian Insitute of Athens, 2014; "Kinisis" in Paris, 2014-2105, Galerie Helene Nougaro.
