Media Credential Applications Now Open for 2016 USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament

The seventh annual three-day tournament returns to Las Vegas March 4 – 6, 2016 

WHAT:                 All media interested in covering the 2016 USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament can now apply for credentials via the USA Sevens website. Following a record-breaking year, the seventh annual three-day tournament once again brings 16 of the top international rugby sevens teams to Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. In addition, the 2016 tournament presents the unique opportunity to see future rugby sevens Olympians in person as the players prepare for the 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 

WHO:                   Teams tentatively scheduled in the seventh annual three-day tournament include: Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Kenya, New Zealand, Portugal, Samoa, Scotland, United States, Russia, South Africa and Wales.  

WHEN:                 Friday, March 4 – Sunday, March 6, 2016 

WHERE:               Sam Boyd Stadium

MEDIA:                 Media credentials will be reviewed by USA Sevens and all approved media will be notified by email. Applications for the three-day tournament are available online at http://www.usasevens.com/las-vegas/media-accreditation. Applying for media credentials does not guarantee approval by USA Sevens. All applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. (Pacific Time) on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016.

DETAILS:              As the premier rugby event in North America, the USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament Las Vegas round is the only North American stop in the series. The 2016 tournament and festival will bring the top 16 international rugby sevens teams to Las Vegas, including teams and players competing in the 2016 summer games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 

The Las Vegas tournament is the fifth event out of ten in the HSBC Sevens World Series. Fans in attendance will see international rugby sevens teams play 45 matches during the three-day competition in an attempt to gain points in the Sevens World Series standings. 

Played on the same size field as traditional 15-player rugby, rugby sevens is played with seven players per team. Matches have seven minute halves with two minute intervals for pool and knock-out matches. The fast pace and short duration of matches makes every moment of the action thrilling for spectators. 

Additional events during the tournament week include the Opening Ceremonies and Parade of Nations, Olympian Pep Rally, Autograph Signings, Las Vegas Invitational (LVI), LVI International Rugby Beer Festival and an International Fan Festival.
