Women Who Code Launches in Ireland With Local Dublin Network

The International 501(c)3 Dedicated to Helping Women Excel in Tech Now Has a Presence in Over 18 Countries and Over 50 Cities Around the World

SAN FRANCISCO, November 10th, 2015 — Women Who Code (WWCode), a non-profit that works to connect women with technology careers while inspiring them to succeed in the field, has just announced the launch of their newest Network in the city of Dublin. This represents the international organization's first foray into Ireland, and the inauguration of their tenth group in Europe, following a rush of expansion that has seen them move into Paris, Greenville, Twin Cities, and Berlin in the past few months.

The first event for WWCode Dublin is scheduled for November 12th. It is being hosted by ZenDesk and will take place in their local Dublin office. The function is being described as a “Hacknight,” although the schedule calls for a networking and welcome session to acquaint new members with one another before any coding work commences. While the event is open to women of all technical backgrounds, it has already maxed out on available reservations, with sixty people attending and over twenty people on the wait-list.

The creation of the Dublin Women Who Code Network has been spearheaded by Director Laura Uzcátegui, a local software engineer, project manager, and business analyst. Speaking of her commitment to bringing the nonprofit to her country she said, “I am driven to help women succeed in technology careers because I believe that when we share our skills, knowledge and experience, we leverage our ability to make dreams come true, in all aspects of life. And what better way to do that than by empowering smart, brilliant, creative women.”

She went on to say that, "There is a lot happening in the local tech industry, and we need to support women so that they can acquire the education and confidence that they need to become leaders in this field." Laura has been joined by Vicky Twomey-Lee and Christina Lynch, who have taken on roles as fellow Directors to help with the launch of the Network. There are also already over 180 registered members of WWCode Dublin, showing the enthusiasm and support that the local community has for the empowering presence of the emerging group.

WWCode CEO and Board Chair Alaina Percival added to her sentiment saying, “Dublin is a major hub of technology in Europe, and throughout the world. The launch of this new Network will help us to empower women in the area to take advantage of this burgeoning field, and become part of the foundation of this industry as it grows and evolves. We’re lucky to have a talented and charismatic woman like Laura at the fore of that process.”
