Blue Man Group and The Moth, a New York-based non-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling, have joined creative forces to develop a one-of-a-kind storytelling and performance event taking place at the Astor Place Theatre in NYC on Nov. 17.

Beginning at 8 p.m., the evening will feature four favorite Moth stories from storytellers Danusia Trevino, Jessica Lee Williamson, Chenjerai Kumanyika, and former Blue Man John Grady. Blue Man Group will perform musical interludes between each story, including never before heard Blue Man music.

Story selections were loosely based on the Blue Man Group’s guiding ideas about human commonality and connectivity. The group has long believed that several basic needs are sewed into our shared human DNA -- that all human beings have a desire to self-express, a desire to be part of a tribe or community, and a desire to feel a heightened sense of being alive. This underlying belief guides many Blue Man Group creative endeavors, and served as a thematic thread to the evening with The Moth.

Tickets for the Astor Place Theatre engagement range from $40 to $100 and can be purchased at themoth.org.

Fans may keep up with Blue Man Group through Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or the hashtag #DareToLive, and The Moth on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or the hashtag #themoth.

ABOUT THE MOTH

The Moth –-hailed as “New York’s hottest and hippest literary ticket” by The Wall Street Journal--  is an acclaimed not-for-profit organization dedicated to the art and craft of storytelling. It was founded in 1997 by the novelist George Dawes Green, who wanted to recreate in New York the feeling of sultry summer evenings in his native Georgia, when moths were attracted to the light on the porch where he and his friends would gather to spin spellbinding tales. The first New York Moth event was held in George’s living room, and the story events quickly spread to larger venues throughout the city. The Moth has presented over 17,000 stories, told live and without notes, by people from all walks of life, to standing-room-only crowds worldwide. Each show features simple, old-fashioned storytelling on thoroughly modern themes by wildly divergent raconteurs who develop and shape their stories with The Moth’s directors.

Today, The Moth conducts seven ongoing programs: The Moth Mainstage, which tours internationally, has featured stories by Malcolm Gladwell, Ethan Hawke, Margaret Cho, Annie Proulx, Salman Rushdie, and an astronaut, a pickpocket, a hot-dog eating champion and hundreds more; The Moth StorySLAM program, which conducts open-mic storytelling competitions in 21 US cities plus Sydney and Melbourne, AU, London, UK and Dublin, IE; The Moth Community Education Program, which offers storytelling workshops free of charge to underserved populations; The Moth High School StorySLAMs, which brings the thrill of competitive storytelling to high schools across the country; The Moth Podcast, which is downloaded more than 27 million times a year; The Moth Corporate Program, which provides industry-specific storytelling solutions; and The Peabody Award-winning The Moth Radio Hour, produced by Jay Allison and presented by PRX, The Public Radio Exchange, which airs weekly on  500+ radio stations nationwide. The international bestseller, The Moth: 50 True Stories (with introductions by Adam Gopnik and Neil Gaiman) was published by Hachette Books and Serpent’s Tail in 2013.
