NEW YORK (October 13, 2015) – Actor/Creator GABRIEL OLIVA delivers a healthy dose of humor in the new web series pilot, SUBURBIA M.D., premiering at the New York Television Festival on October 23, 2015.
Directed by Andrew Rydzewski, SUBURBIA M.D. embarks with Dr. Nick Thurmond (Oliva) starting his first day at a suburban medical clinic in his hometown after 12 years of medical training. He quickly discovers this dysfunctional clinic needs more treatment than its patients. To round out the cast, Oliva brought in the talented comedic actors Josh Meyers (Amazon’s Red Oaks, MADtv), David Jacks (Nickelodeon’s Homeroom and The Creative Lab) and Kate Huffman (Fresh Off the Boat, Castle).

Oliva developed the idea for the series drawing from his own life, explaining "I came up with the idea because I grew up in a small time medical clinic. My Dad is the owner/Doctor of a medical practice and my Mom is the administrator. My Grandfather, Uncle, Brother and Sister-in-Law are also doctors, so medicine is in my blood. It only made sense to write a series that encapsulated all the craziness I’ve seen in the medical field."

SUBURBIA M.D. marked the first for Oliva as a solo writer-producer, adding “It was genuinely terrifying to produce a project alone that I wrote. But, I couldn’t be happier with the final product. The entire cast and crew brought their A-game.”

Oliva has been building a solid reputation in Hollywood and beyond. His most recent credits include a guest starring role on Disney Juniors’ new series Elena of Avalor and a supporting role in the dark comedy indie feature Friended to Death. Visitors to the ‘happiest place on Earth’ will recognize him as a member of Disneyland’s resident barbershop quartet, “The Dapper Dans of Disneyland”. Oliva earned his B.F.A. in Acting from the prestigious University of Southern California and is a graduate of the renowned Groundling Improv School.

Coming in 2016, Oliva created and will star in the murder mystery musical MURRRDER at The Groundlings Theater. He is also in-development as writer/star of a LARP (Live Action Role Play) mockumentary feature.
