DUBOIS, WY - The Don Scheer Memorial Packhorse Race will be held on Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14 at the Dubois Town Park. The open race (men and/or women) will start at 10 a.m. where the team will break down their camp, pack up one horse, saddle the other two horses and trot a 7-mile course.  After they unpack the horse, have a 15-minute break, they will trot again the 7-mile course and set up camp at approximately 11 a.m.-Noon.  The first team (2 people, 3 horses) to complete this wins!  The entry fee for Saturday's event is $100.

There will be a Calcutta on Friday evening, June 12 where contestants meet the teams and hopefully bet on their projected winners.  Trophy buckles will be awarded to first, second, and third place for each race with 10% given to charity.

On Saturday, 8 p.m. the Calcutta will be for the Old Timer's and Powder-Puff races. On Sunday the team combinations change. The 7-mile Old Timer's race (with combined contestant ages of 100 years) will start at 10 a.m. The 7-mile Powder-Puff race will be for ladies only and starts at 11 a.m.  The routine is similar but the camp will consist of a teepee instead of a larger tent.  These entry fees are $65 per team (2 people, 3 horses). The Rustic Pine will host the awards and calcutta payoff Sunday at 4 p.m.

There will be kids games as well as a Poker Run on horseback Saturday after the race. Come with your horses and join the fun or watch and bet on your favorites.  Either way, the Don Scheer Memorial Packhorse Race is sure to entertain you.  For more information on entering the race call Dave Brant 307-455-3675.
