SAN FRANCISCO - May 10, 2016 Women Who Code (WWCode), a non-profit organization that works to help women achieve success in the technology industry, announces the launch of its newest local Network in Taipei, Taiwan. The group is being led by veteran Engineering Manager Jane Shih, and 63 people have already joined the community. The inaugural event took place on May 6th at Syntrend Creative Park and a Java series is planned to begin later this month.

Jane Shih, the Director of Women Who Code Taipei is a former Technology Operations Manager for eBay, who moved to Taiwan to Co-Found the startup WeTogether.co. When asked about her passion for empowering women in technology she said “it is important not only for creating better products, but also for enabling a more sustainable and profitable industry as a whole.” She went on to say that, “I would also love to see more female startup founders changing the world with their talents, in conjunction with support from the global women in tech community.”

Women Who Code Taipei is the organization’s 11th Network launch in Asia, and their first foray into Taiwan. Under the leadership of Jane Shih, and with the support of the worldwide WWCode community, the group is tasked with bringing educational, networking, and empowerment events to the area, while working on outreach programs to make more local women aware of the potential benefits that exist for them in the growing technology industry.

This latest Network launch is the continuation of a process that has seen Women Who Code spread to over 20 countries and 60 cities around the world in just over three years. The CEO and Board Chair of WWCode, Alaina Percival, spoke about the occasion saying, “we’re enthusiastic about bringing WWCode programs and offerings to Taipei, and we’re excited to have Jane Shih leading the way. With her guidance, I believe that the Network can do incredible things for the women of Taiwan.”
