Wyoming’s Wind River Mountains bring to mind awe-inspiring and demanding backcountry expeditions, gritty and storied rock climbing, and vast stretches of pristine wilderness. In many ways, Wind River Country/Fremont County conjures up images of endurance.

In its annual Dirt edition this April, Trail Runner Magazine brings those very images to life. Breathtaking photographs run alongside an inspiring account of an impromptu trail running adventure in Wind River Country. The nine-page photo journal, titled “Roaming in the Winds: A spontaneous adventure in Wyoming’s Wind River Range” follows two runners—a writer and a photographer—as they play in the Cirque of the Towers and Titcomb Basin/ Gannett Peak area.

“Runners, backpackers, and climbers alike will be impressed and inspired by the story in this beautiful magazine, and we’re delighted to see folks making the most of our backyard,” said Paula McCormick of the Wind River Visitors Council.  Lander, located in the heart of Wind River Country, was named among the top trail towns by Trail Runner Magazine in September, 2014.

Pick up a copy of the special edition on shelves now or check this out on-line at trailrunnermag.com/current-issue.  Visit windriver.org for ideas to create your own roaming adventure in Wind River Country.
