Concordia to Host "Mind, Body, and Spirit Wellness Fair"
- Written by Pitch Engine
Concordia University invites students, faculty, staff, and community members to learn about mental, physical, and spiritual methods for improving their health and preventing future disease at the inaugural Mind, Body, Spirit Wellness Fair event.
The fair will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 10, in the Terrace Room on Concordia’s Mequon campus, 12800 N. Lake Shore Drive.
More than 50 of Concordia’s faculty professionals and graduate students majoring in health professional programs will be available to advise attendees and answer their questions.
Prior to the fair, participants are invited to attend chapel from 10-11:15 a.m. The event also will include a devotion at the conclusion, from 1:30-1:45 p.m.
“We hope to encourage individuals to be proactive about not just their physical health, but their emotional and spiritual health as well,” said Christine Johnson, one of the student organizers of the event. “So often the latter two are neglected; however, they are just as important as physical health to a person’s well-being.”
The event is sponsored by CUW’s Interprofessional Education (IPE) program, which aims to train students in the health and human services programs to collaborate with one another in order to ultimately improve patient-centered care in their careers after graduation.
“We thought this would be a great opportunity for our health and social care profession students to work together and educate the campus community on a variety of health and wellness topics. That’s IPE put into practice,” said IPE Campus Coordinator Mike Oldani, Ph.D., M.S.
Concordia boasts several health and human services programs, including Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Social Work, Nursing, Nurse Practioner, Pharmacy, and Athletic Training. All programs—as well as CUW’s Lay Ministry program—will be represented at the fair. The April event will also give attendees the chance to learn more about the programs.
In addition, participants will have the chance to enter drawings and win prizes, such as a Fitbit, cookbooks, and gift cards. The first 100 to attend will automatically receive a gift bag.
