Kansas City Pet Project and Big Brothers Big Sisters announced as April competitors and beneficiaries

KANSAS CITY, MO (April 1, 2016) – Dick Leinenkugel, president of the 149-year-old Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Co., kicked off a new monthly charity competition today that will begin in April at Leinenkugel’s KC,  the first full-service restaurant in the brewery’s history. The competition, named FILLanthropy, features two Leinenkugel’s draft beers each month. The competition pits two local charities against each other in a competition to pour as much beer from their assigned tap in a given month.

The pours of each charity’s designated draft will be tallied and at the end of its assigned month and the charity with the most pours will receive a 10 percent donation of the sales from its assigned draft. The losing charity will still benefit from the competition, receiving a five percent donation of the sales from its designated draft. The winning charity will automatically roll over to the next month’s competition and a new charity will be chosen via crowdsourcing from Leinenkugel’s KC social media channels.

The competition kicks off in April with Kansas City Pet Project and Big Brothers Big Sisters as the inaugural FILLanthropy charities. Dick Leinenkugel traveled to Kansas City to announce the two charities April 1 and announced the charities’ randomly assigned beers, with Leinenkugel’s Grapefruit Shandy assigned to Kansas City Pet Project and Leinenkugel’s Sunset Wheat assigned to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Leinenkugel’s KC opened March 7 at 1323 Walnut Street in the heart of downtown Kansas City in the Power & Light District. It is located on the first level of the Kansas City Live! Block with a newly constructed entrance on Walnut Street, as well as an existing entrance inside the KC Live! Block. The restaurant’s exterior beer garden is also newly constructed, featuring a two-sided fireplace, soft seating and lush landscaping.

Leinenkugel’s is open for lunch and dinner service. Hours will be Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m-10 p.m.; Friday & Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 a.m.; and Sunday, noon-10 p.m. Happy hour will run 4-7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and a late night happy hour will be offered from 10 p.m. until close every night.
