The external stimulation modality is categorized into transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS); the TENS segment leads the market and is projected to reach $232.9 million by 2019.

According to a study by the British Journal of Urology International (BJUI), it was estimated that, by 2018, 2.3 billion individuals will be affected by at least one type of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) such as overactive bladder (OAB) and urinary incontinence (UI). Globally, a rise of 18% to 19% is expected in the incidence of LUTS disorders.
