Tips to make your living space more green

  • Written by: News Company

Suburban living, close to the city need not be a concrete jungle. Green spaces may be significantly smaller than country living, but with the right design, you could still be enjoying the surrounds of nature in your back garden or even on your balcony. Having a living and green environment is uplifting for the soul and a good place to spend quiet times or meditation. Plants are also a good in terms to the way that they contribute to the health of the world. Besides the joy of having fresh living plants, trees essentially clean the air by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. It is for this same reason that hospitals have as many plants as they can inside and around the hospital buildings. So, if you want to go green, here are some ideas of what to plant to make your green space.

Trees

What is very popular in small spaces is to plant trees. The size of your green space will determine the types of trees that you will have. But because of space limitations, you need to have good garden maintenance. You may find tree pruning Perth businesses that offer weekly or monthly garden maintenance plans.

Herbs and vegetables

If you’re into organic living, installing wall gardens are a great idea for vegetables. Those that are ideal for wall gardens are lettuces, herbs and non-legumes. Vegetables that grow quickly are better because in small spaces you would want plants that grow and replenish quickly. Also keep in mind what vegetables can be planted next to one another. And sometimes planting flowers, like marigolds, can help keep pests away.

Plants with colour

Brighten up your green space with colour. Fancy elaborate, and exotic plants aren’t always necessary and can be hard to maintain and planting simple daises can do a good job bringing in colour. Go to the local nursery and ask for flowers that are indigenous and do well in your weather conditions. When spring comes you will be enjoying the colours of spring. You can either put like colours together or plant contrasting colours next to each other.

Succulents

Plants that always works well in small spaces or that require less attention are succulents. There is a huge variety of succulents that can be plain and simple to complex and colourful. They all grow well together, in tight spaces and with little water and effort. You can go with large aloes and succulent plants that work well to break up a wall. Or, you can use the smaller varieties to put into pretty pots. Glass vases are lovely for succulents as it highlights the ruggedness of the plant while adding a touch of gentleness to its look.

Grass

A simple way of making an attractive garden is through planting different types of grasses. While this may seem strange, there are great grass species that have different looks, colours and sizes. It gives a nice natural look to your garden and you will also enjoy them flowering in different seasons, often with a bloom in autumn, before the cold winter months kick in.
