Maximise Your Productivity When Working from Home

Working from home has become increasingly popular over the last few years, with a record number of companies now offering remote opportunities. It’s popular among many employees because of the flexibility that it offers and allows them to spend less time and money on their commutes. Businesses can also benefit from remote workers thanks to a wider talent pool and the fact that many employees are happier when given the choice of working from home or working in an office.

Although most people prefer working from home, it does come with its downsides. Aside from missing out on the culture of a busy office, some people find it harder to be productive when they’re not at their regular desks. In this article, you’ll learn some tips for how you can maximise your productivity when working from home, allowing you to work quickly and more efficiently.

Improving Your Computer Setup

Some jobs provide remote staff with their own devices they can use while working from home. However, the majority of these roles expect employees to use their personal devices for work. To work efficiently, you need to make sure the device you use is up to the task. Different devices may be better suited for certain types of work than others.

In most cases, a desktop computer is the ideal solution, offering you a way to download and install useful programs and use computing power to complete tasks effectively. Macs are a popular choice among remote workers thanks to their ease of use and excellent capabilities. While desktop computers and laptops are powerful, you need to ensure they’re being cooled properly.

An overheating device can cause problems, including improper shutdown and the loss of data. Make sure you keep an eye on this with the Macbook temperature monitor. This will measure the internal temperature of the device, ensuring you can cool it down if it gets too hot. There are a lot of different apps available that monitor the temperature of your device, and they’re very easy to use.

Set a Regular Schedule

When working from home, you might be tempted to work whenever you feel like it. However, not having a regular schedule and routine can be very disruptive to how productive you are. Most people work far better when they know exactly how long they’ll be working each day. Being consistent with this leads to improved results, ensuring all your work gets done to the best of your ability.

Aside from scheduling your working hours, it’s important to take regular breaks. While it might seem counterproductive, breaks actually help our minds work more efficiently when we’re focused on a task. You should aim to split your work day up into segments, slotting in short breaks between each period of work. Some people like to use the Pomodoro method, which sets a 20 minute timer for each work section.

On your break, you can do something productive around the house or take a short break and relax. It’s good to get some exercise on your break, and going outside for a walk is a great way to increase your sense of well-being.

Setting a Designated Workspace

Above all else, make sure you have a place that’s designated for work. You don’t want to be working from the sofa or your bed. It’s important to have a desk and a chair that you can use when completing your work for long hours.

While you don’t necessarily need an entire room dedicated to working, having an office will help you compartmentalise your work and ensure you’re not disturbed during your working hours. Make sure it’s comfortable and free from distractions.
