What Should You Know About Your Heel Pain?

  • Written by: News Company

Every so often, you will become pained by something. Maybe you accidentally stepped on something sharp or maybe you fell down and scraped something. While this can be unpleasant, most people consider this to be a pretty normal part of everyday life. However, what is not considered normal is pains that occur everyday. When you find yourself experiencing pain every single day, no matter where the pain is, it might be time to consider seeing a doctor. Depending on where the pain is located, there are a few different things that you can consider doing. For instance, if your pain is localised to your foot, you might want to consider seeing a doctor who specialises in handling feet: a podiatrist. Right doctor can only help you in dealing with top of foot pain.

More specifically, if you have been experiencing heel pain on a near-constant basis, there is a chance that you have a condition called plantar fasciitis. The name of this condition is Latin for “inflammation of the plantar fascia”, which is the thick ligament that stretches from the bone of your heel to the toes of your feet. Plantar fasciitis is a condition that is incredibly common all around the world and is actually one of the most common complaints of recurring foot pain that people all across the nation have. This condition is relatively common, which also means that a lot is known about it. The more that is known about such a condition, the easier it will be for you to seek treatment and live a pain-free life.

What Is Plantar Fasciitis?

This is arguably one of the most common causes of heel pain in the entire world. Usually, people who have this condition will experience a sharp, almost jarring pain in the heel when they first stand up out of bed in the mornings. It gives a whole new meaning to waking up on the wrong side of the bed. The pain will usually become less jarring as the day progresses, but nobody should have to live with heel pain every time he or she gets out of bed. Thankfully, once you understand where plantar fasciitis comes from, you and your doctor can begin taking the steps needed to not have foot pains every day.

This condition has numerous causes but they almost always centre on injuries caused by straining the ligaments of your heel. As with any other ligament in the body, the ones in your heel can tear at a micro level. This is what causes the type of pains that you experience with plantar fasciitis. One of the reasons why plantar fasciitis is worse in the mornings is because during sleep, ligaments will tighten and shorten. This is a completely normal part of sleep but it can cause problems for people who have their plantar fascia inflamed as this means that they will wake up to an unpleasant surprise in the mornings. There are some ways to get around this morning pain, though.

How Can You Prevent Pain?

Aside from wearing shoes that support the plantar fascia, you can also minimise just how jarring the pain is in the mornings. The best thing you can do for yourself is to give your feet a bit of a warm-up through light exercising so that the ligament is stretched out a bit, preventing at least part of the jarring pain. You should also make sure that you stop walking barefoot as this can actually damage the plantar fascia, which will just make the plantar fasciitis worse. By taking care of your feet, you can begin to recover from this unpleasant condition.
