Cosmetic breast surgery is an elective procedure that involves enhancing the appearance, size, or shape of a woman's or man's breasts. There are various reasons why individuals undergo breast surgery. Some are done for cosmetic reasons, while others are done for health reasons. This may include reconstructing the breast to look more youthful, increasing its size, and performing a breast reduction for back, neck, and shoulder pain.

For individuals who consider cosmetic breast surgery, understanding the different types of procedures available is crucial. There are various breast surgical options, such as breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, and breast reconstruction. Each procedure caters to different concerns and desired outcomes. This is where consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon can be helpful. They can guide you through the process, explain each option in detail, and help you choose the right procedure that aligns with your goals.

Breast Augmentation with Implants

For individuals who are unhappy with the appearance of their breasts due to factors such as age, weight loss, or genetics, breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that involves inserting saline or silicone implants to enlarge their breasts.

However, there are several factors that need to be considered before undergoing this procedure, including the size, type, and shape of the implants. A plastic surgeon will work closely with the patient to determine the most appropriate size and shape of the implants based on the patient's body type and desired outcome.

Breast Augmentation with Fat Transfer

For women who desire a more subtle increase in breast size, traditional breast implants may not be the ideal solution. In these cases, fat-transfer breast augmentation can be a great alternative. Also known as "fat grafting," "lipo-filling," or "living fat transfer," this procedure involves using a patient's own fat to enhance the appearance of their breasts.

During the procedure, a plastic surgeon will use a form of liposuction to remove small amounts of fat from areas of the body with stubborn pockets of fat, such as the thighs, abdomen, or flanks. The fat is then purified and carefully re-injected into the breasts in layers to create the desired shape and size.

Breast lift

Breast sagging or drooping is a common concern among women, that cannot be addressed by breast augmentation or fat transfer alone. Our breasts naturally change over time with a loss of elasticity from ageing, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuations. Fortunately, there is surgery that reshapes your breast, known as a breast lift (mastopexy). It lifts the breast, which has a significant degree of laxity and has lost its perkiness. This procedure involves making incisions on the breast, removing excess skin, and shifting the position of fat and other tissues. It can also reposition the nipples where necessary. Some women choose to combine a breast lift with a breast augmentation procedure to make their breasts appear more prominent.

Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery is a procedure that can significantly improve the lives of women. While some women desire large breasts, others may experience various difficulties due to their breast size, such as severe back pain, shoulder and neck pain, skin rashes, difficulty exercising, and daily discomfort.

Fortunately, there is a skin reduction surgery that can alleviate the physical discomfort caused by overly large breasts. A breast reduction, or reduction mammoplasty,  is a surgical procedure that involves the extraction of excess fat, tissue, and skin from the breasts. The procedure can be performed using a combination of incisions, liposuction, and the removal of glandular tissue to create smaller, lighter, and firmer breasts that are better proportioned to a person's body size and shape.

Breast Revision

Breast implant replacement surgery can be an effective solution for women who are unsatisfied with their previous breast augmentation results. It can help correct any complications that may have arisen from the initial surgery. During implant revision surgery, the surgeon will remove the current implants and replace them with new ones of a different size or type. Some may want to exchange their size for a smaller or larger one, while others may require new implants due to complications such as implant rupture or capsular contracture. Whatever the reason may be, breast implant revision surgery creates an appearance or feel to the breast that is less desirable than the original result.

Conclusion

Cosmetic breast surgery can enhance the shape, size, and appearance of your breasts. It can be a life-changing procedure that helps you achieve your desired results.

When it comes to breast surgery, there are several options to consider, such as breast augmentation, breast lift, and breast reduction. Each procedure comes with its own benefits, and your plastic surgeon can help you determine which one is right for you.
