How To Keep Your Teeth Healthy

  • Written by: NewsServices.com

When you think about your mouth, you might think that it's already in pretty good shape. You brush twice a day and floss when you remember to, right? But even if your teeth look healthy now, what about when you're older? Brushing and flossing help prevent cavities, but they aren't the only thing you should be doing to take care of your teeth. There are a lot of things you can do to make sure your teeth stay healthy. Here is some information on how you can keep your mouth in tip-top shape.

Everyone eats, so it's essential to make sure our diets are as nutritious as possible. The best diet is full of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean sources of protein. Foods with high sugar or fat levels are not your friend. You should limit yourself to about two servings of candy each week and no more than three servings of chips, cookies, ice cream, etc.

If you have to consume large amounts of sugar, it's essential to increase your water intake to decrease the risk of cavities. It's also good to brush after big servings of soda or juice because there is so much sugar in these beverages.

It's easy to eat too many snacks throughout your day, but snacking doesn't have to be the death of your teeth. Instead, you can try to snack on healthy food like fruits and vegetables when you're hungry. For example, carrots are perfect for keeping your mouth healthy because the phytochemicals they contain help fight off bacterial infections that lead to tooth decay.

It's not surprising that the foods we eat affect our teeth. However, it can be surprising to know that there are also effects on teeth from what we drink. Sugary drinks like soda and juice are apparent culprits for cavities, but other beverages can worsen. Teeth exposed to sugary drinks will suffer the most damage, but another liquid causes more harm than any sugary drink: alcohol. So if you're having a drink, make sure that you're also brushing your teeth.

If you don't drink sufficient water daily, here's a reason for you to increase your water intake: it helps in reducing the risk of heart disease and colon cancer. It will also decrease any bad breath you might have if your mouth is dry. So keep a water bottle by your side and take a sip every few minutes to keep yourself hydrated.

If you're in search of a reason to stop consuming alcohol, this might be it: alcohol is very acidic, and that acidity can cause teeth damage. If you can't go cold turkey on drinking, at least limit the amount of alcohol the frequency that you drink it.

There are many things you can do to take care of your teeth. After all, they are one of the essential parts of your body! If you have any queries regarding keeping your teeth healthy, talk to your dentist Sydney CBD today! Remember, your mouth is worth it!
