3 Stressful Situations and How to Deal with Them

  • Written by: News Feature Team

Stress is one of the biggest intrusions on the peaceful lives we wish to lead. All of us strive and hope to lead happy and fulfilling paths, but every now and then, we’re going to stumble off our desired pathways. Certain situations arise and can cause chaos on our lives. This can be because of a death of a loved one, divorce or even moving home. It is how we deal with them that defines us. Here are some of the more notorious causes of stress and how best to cope with the strain of certain circumstances.

Death of a Loved One

Losing someone we love can be traumatic and can have long-lasting repercussions. Losing a parent, child, spouse or friend causes significant stress, even though we understand that death is part of being human. We grieve, and while we do so our lives are seriously disrupted and turned upside down. How we grieve differs between us; not one person will grieve in the same way. It can also lead to mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. Therefore, you need to ensure you look after yourself, or if it’s someone close to you who is grieving, that you are looking after them.

There are five stages of grieving, and there is no timespan as to how long each stage will last. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and, finally, acceptance are processes our body and mind go through to help us deal with such pain. If you have lost a loved one then make sure to reach out. Surround yourself with friends and family, take your time, do not go to work if you are not ready, and consider speaking to a doctor or mental health professional if you’re sinking into depression. Make sure you eat, drink and try to continue your routine as best as possible.

Moving Home

Even if you’re moving to the other side of town, packing up your possessions and moving you and your family can be tremendously stressful and disruptive. It takes meticulous planning and organisation while trying to stick to a normal routine as much as possible. However, you will experience the stress of moving more than once in your lifetime; you just need to be prepared beforehand.

When you’re packing, make sure to box your possessions up in order. Label your boxes to denote the room they are going to, and have them loaded into the moving van in a smart order. Think about the other end, too. For example, you will want to unpack your kitchen equipment first, as well as the bathroom and bedroom furniture. This is essential planning, especially if you’re moving interstate, such as from Adelaide to Melbourne, or Melbourne to Sydney. You will also want to employ the help of Melbourne interstate removalists such as those at Air Network, otherwise the process will become much more stressful than it should be. Being organised is vital, particularly if you have children.

Losing Your Job

Whether you’ve been fired or made redundant, the loss of your job can greatly impact your life and daily routine. To many, losing your job can be humiliating, however, it is highly likely that you will lose your job at least once in your lifetime. This can be anything from your job role being made redundant to your company going under. It can cause financial difficulty, stress and even cause rifts between spouses and family members.

Losing your job may make you lose your bearings, and if you’ve been at the same job or in the same field for a number of years returning to job searching can seem difficult and alien. Return to your CV and update it; make your CV’s template stand out and consider options you’ve never thought of before. Reach out to friends and contact your professional contacts; if they’re familiar to your great work ethic, then they may consider you for a role themselves.

Life can be turbulent. There is no road map for us to follow, and although the uncertainty of life can be stressful and unnerving, the unknown can also be wonderous. Do not let the unfamiliar scare you, and although situations will arise and turn your life chaotic, make sure you confront these issues head on.
