The Two-Minute Guide to Choosing the Best Canopy Material for Your Popup Tent

  • Written by: NewsServices.com

Canopy tents are extremely helpful for businesses to get their act on the road for participating in trade fairs, exhibitions, and road shows or event set up booths at music fests and sports events. One of the biggest considerations in buying a canopy tent for business promotion and marketing is the canopy, besides the size and construction of the frame.

General Features of the Canopy Fabric You Need To Evaluate

The main things you will need to consider when selecting the canopy fabric include durability, resistance to water protection from UV rays, and fire-proofing. Since each fabric is available in various thicknesses, you will also need to choose the thickness you require. Anything too thin will compromise its strength and ability to resist the elements, while too thick a fabric will be heavy and costly. The density of the weave of the fabric is an important factor. It is measured by a unit called the denier, which according to Apparel Search, is equivalent to the mass in grams of 9000 meters of the fiber. While different fabrics have different handling characteristics, a blue canopy fabric with more than 500 deniers will be heavier than is convenient.

Popular Canopy Tent Fabric Materials

In the olden days, cotton canvas was the sole material for use in tent canopies. However, the scenario has changed dramatically with the invention of modern synthetic fabrics that have superior performance. Some of the more popular tent canopy fabrics include:

Polyester

Easily one of the most affordable canopy materials for popup tents, polyester is usually water-resistant, not waterproof unless the manufacturer has applied a sealant and specifies it to be waterproof. However, you can expect it to lose its waterproofing properties after about a year, unless you get the fabric re-treated. While polyester gives some degree of UV ray protection, other materials with greater thickness perform better in this regard. The main reasons for the popularity of polyester include its low weight, durability, and affordability.

Polyethylene

Polythene is more durable than polyester, but because it cannot be folded without the material creasing and cracking, the portability of the tent is compromised. However, it is ideal for heavy-duty tents because its extra strength gives it better waterproofing. Polyester finds widespread use as a canopy material because it is durable, waterproof, UV-resistant, and affordable. However, it does not hold up well in high-impact weather conditions as it can tear easily under pressure.

Vinyl

Vinyl, also called PVC, is a rugged material ideal for use as a canopy fabric. In addition to being strong, it is waterproof, UV-resistant, and does not crack even with protracted exposure to the elements. Because vinyl canopies are polyester fabrics coated with PVC, it combines the best of both materials. Being thick and heavy, it can make a popup canopy tent unwieldy, but you benefit from its sturdiness and longevity.

Conclusion

By getting to know the characteristics of common canopy materials, you will be able to choose better and buy a tent that is in line with your requirements and delivers a high return on investment.
