Common Reasons Why People Go Missing

  • Written by: News Feature Team

In the current world, to date there’s been millions of people disappear worldwide, and it’s becoming more and more common. Although some countries have higher rates than others, the sheer number of missing people globally is astounding. It is important to understand that people go missing intentionally and unintentionally. Even though you may believe that your loved ones would never simply vanish unexpectedly without telling anybody, you can never know for sure as we live in a completely unpredictable world. In this case, it is important for you to be aware of the causes of this problem so that you can prevent it from happening, and not be left wondering “Why did they just disappear?” Listed below are some of the common reasons why people go missing.

Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is a situation when a spouse is being physically, emotionally or sexually abused by their partner. Even though this might seem horrid, there are many people who are being abused within their personal relationships. A lot of people do not get help during this situation as they believe that it will only get them into more trouble. During such circumstances, there is a tendency for people to run away so that they can build a new life, one without abuse or trauma. So, if you know anyone who is being domestically abused, then you need to be aware that they may just disappear without any notice to escape the violence.

Natural Disasters

As you may already know, a natural disaster can make cities upside down. Due to natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes and tsunamis, it is completely possible for people to go missing or get lost and misplaced. Since it is impossible for everyone to stick together at this time, people break apart to ensure their survival. So, if you lose someone during such a situation, you need to start looking for them immediately. Thankfully during such situations, there are organisations and commissions that can help you to find missing people. So, all you need to do is make a formal report.

Mental Illnesses

When a person is mentally unstable, there is a high chance for this person to leave their home and go elsewhere. This could be due to two reasons. Firstly, the person might not be in the right mind and therefore could have made an incorrect decision. Since the cognitive skills of a mentally disabled person are unreliable, it is no surprise that sometimes they just suddenly vanish unexpectedly. Secondly, mentally ill individuals who are depressed and are in a lot of pain can leave their home as it may be difficult for them to live in their old homes. So, they might leave their current residence to avoid causing inconvenience and being pitied. Therefore, it is important to keep an eye on such people.

Suspicious Circumstances

Unfortunately, it is possible for people to disappear under suspicious circumstances and people go missing everywhere. There are those who kidnap people for money and other reasons. If you think that you or your family member has the likelihood to have been kidnapped, then you need to be extremely careful about your daily activities. People get kidnapped for many reasons including personal vendetta and financial gain. So, do not publicise your personal activities on social media.

Apart from this, people can also disappear due to anxiety, homelessness and alcohol or drug abuse. So, keep in mind that this can happen to anyone and everyone.
