Philadelphia, Pa--For more than a decade, Motivational Speaker Vernon L. Byrd has been helping people who are struggling with life's challenges to find their way using "The Mirror." It is a technique he uses in his "Love Yourself Unconditionally Workshops," and demands that you look at your own image and be brutally honest with yourself about the way you are living your life and interacting with others.  “The mirror doesn't lie, said Byrd. What keeps us from being honest with ourselves, especially when we are making bad choices, is the refusal to see what is before us and to take responsibility and own up to the need to change."

Now, in his book – “Virgo, She Did It Her Way,” (Smokestack Entertainment)- Mr. Byrd showcases "The Mirror" process, through the eyes of his young character, "Virgo."

The book, takes us on Virgo's life journey. A young woman from the inner-city, Virgo tries desperately to come to terms with all kinds of challenges, such as bad relationships, feelings of isolation and rejection, and the struggle to make ends meet.  On a daily basis Virgo is faced with situations that cause her unhappiness; from fake friends to betrayals in love. Young readers will identify with many (if not all) of the stories, but it is the process of "The Mirror" itself that shines and offers readers guidance in addressing their own issues. Mr. Byrd adds a personal diary page for each chapter, as a way to get readers to think about their own choices and decisions.

Vernon Byrd reached the turning point in his own life when he was in his early thirties, living in Chester, Pennsylvania. “As I lived my life I enjoyed doing things for others before I did for myself. I didn't realize that the people around me were taking me for granted. As I began to see it occurring, it would give me a deep rooted hurt, but I was afraid to stop because I didn't want to be alone. When I saw that my days were going to everyone else and they were fighting over me, I decided I had to change. When I was alone I would look at myself in the mirror and begin to talk to it. Once I made the decision to take my life back, I made sure my mirror was always there."

Mr. Byrd is planning to tour  the nation on a "Love Yourself Unconditionally Book Tour," where he will meet up with young women to share insights from "Virgo She Did It Her Way," and go through "The Mirror" technique to show young women how to put themselves first. "You have to love and take care of yourself first, before you can truly have quality, loving relationships with others, said Byrd.
