3rd Annual Run the Forest 5K to benefit LifeShare of the Carolinas

                                                           Saturday, September 26, 2015

Asheville, NC:   Asheville Eye Associates announces its 3rd Annual Run the Forest 5K and 1 Mile Walk will benefit LifeShare of the Carolinas.  A nonprofit organization, LifeShare provides organs and tissues for transplantation and helps communities and hospitals through educational and support services in 22 counties in southwestern North Carolina.  The 5K and 1 mile walk is directed and hosted by Asheville Eye Associates and will be held Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 9:00am.  Carolina Day School is the Platinum Sponsor for the event and starting point for the 5K.

The 5K is USTFA-certified and routes through scenic Biltmore Forest.  The 5K is for everyone, whether you're a beginner or an experienced runner and is a family-friendly event with prizes for kids and adults of every age bracket including top Masters Awards.  Everyone is also invited to participate in the 1 mile walk which will follow the 5K to honor transplant recipients, donor families, friends and supporters. Both events start at Carolina Day School, located at 1345 Hendersonville Road in Asheville.

“We want to support LifeShare of the Carolina’s services in our local community by raising awareness of organ and tissue donation and to raise money for this non-profit which provides vital services for people with eye, heart, kidney, liver and other disease,” said Edward K. Isbey, III, MD.

“Nationally over 116,000 people are awaiting an organ transplant with over 3500 of those in North Carolina.  In 2013, more than 48,000 corneal transplants were performed in the U.S. and more than 95 percent of all corneal transplant operations successfully restored the corneal recipient’s vision,” Dr. Isbey, III said.

Proceeds from the event will benefit LifeShare public education projects.  Register to run or walk, bring your family and friends, and share hope!
