SAN ANTONIO – Aug. 6, 2015 – On Aug. 8, 1950, an adventurous and determined entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson opened up the world’s first Whataburger on Ayers Street in Corpus Christi, Texas. Precisely 65 years later, Whataburger will celebrate the milestone by thanking its customers for their continued support with an offer for a free Whatasize on all Whatameals.

This Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., at participating locations, Whataburger will offer all guests who order a regular meal (including a sandwich, fries and a beverage) an upgrade to a large fries and a 44-ounce fountain drink or tea. Whataburger Jr. meals include an upgrade to medium fries and a 32-ounce fountain drink or tea.

“We want to share our thanks in a big way to all of our customers who have enjoyed our classic Whataburgers, just like Mr. Dobson proudly established at his first burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas 65 years ago,” said Rob Rodriguez, Senior Vice President of Operations. “Today, we’re a little bigger and we offer a few more menu items, but all of us remain committed to taking care of the values Mr. Dobson, his wife Grace, their children and all our more than 34,000 family members have held so dear for 65 years and counting: serve the highest quality products, treat others with respect and invest in the community.”

ABOUT WHATABURGER:

Whataburger has focused on its fresh, made-to-order burgers and friendly customer service since 1950 when Harmon Dobson opened the first Whataburger as a small roadside burger stand in Corpus Christi, Texas. Dobson gave his restaurant a name he hoped to hear customers say every time they took a bite of his made-to-order burgers: "What a burger!" Within the first week, people lined up around the block for his 25 cent, 100 percent beef burgers served on five-inch buns. Today, the company is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, with more than 780 locations in 10 states with sales of more than $1 billion annually.
