July 2, 2015 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. —Grand Rapids Community College's visual arts department was recently reaccredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

GRCC's new accreditation runs through the 2023-24 academic year. Founded in 1944, NASAD establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate programs.

"To receive an ongoing, 10-year reaccreditation from NASAD is a great honor for our visual arts faculty and a mark of the excellence of our visual arts programs," said Provost Laurie Chesley. "I am particularly proud of the leadership of Nick Antonakis, visual arts department head, who spearheaded GRCC's reaccreditation efforts."

Antonakis said the NASAD accreditation assures students and the community that GRCC's program reaches the highest standards at a reasonable cost. Faculty work continuously to safeguard and improve the program by using the NASAD guidelines and standards, he said.

"The NASAD evaluators found all aspects of our programs very successful and highlighted the painting, drawing and photography areas," he said.

GRCC's visual arts department offers associate degrees in art, photography and pre-professional degrees in fine arts and photography. To learn more about the department, click here.

Grand Rapids Community College has been offering educational opportunities in West Michigan for 100 years. Established in 1914, the college offers degree courses, certification and training programs, and workshops and personal enrichment classes. Offerings are held on GRCC’s downtown Grand Rapids campus, and at several locations throughout Kent and Ottawa counties, as well as through distance learning.
