Furthering a mission towards environmental sustainability, Sciessent’s PFC-free CURB durable water repellent joins Lava on bluesign-approved list

Wakefield, Mass. (For Immediate Release) - Sciessent, the leading provider of antimicrobial and odor adsorption solutions for the textile and apparel industries, today announced their partnership with bluesign® systems for their fluorocarbon-free durable water repellent, CURB. CURB joins Sciessent’s odor adsorbing Lava technology on a growing list of bluesign-approved products.

Bluesign approval underscores Sciessent’s commitment to environmental sustainability and, for the past 16 years, bluesign has represented the benchmark for sustainable textile production. Their approach sets and controls standards for environmentally friendly and safe production methods, helping remove harmful substances and practices from the manufacturing process.

“The creation of environmentally friendly, sustainable, and responsible products is a core mission for Sciessent,” said Paul Ford, CEO with Sciessent. “We are driven to minimize our environmental impact within the textile industry and help encourage sustainable practices in the future. We are thrilled to join the bluesign system and to grow our offering of bluesign approved products.”

Sciessent’s CURB is able to easily, effectively, and affordably provide enhanced, breathable protection from rain and moisture. CURB delivers the same water repellent performance as existing technologies without the use of harmful fluorocarbons.

Similar to other DWR treatments, CURB gives textiles a functional finish that adds water-shedding properties to outerwear, causing droplets to bead and roll off the surface while maintaining permeability to air and water vapor. CURB treated garments stay dry longer and get dry faster than untreated garments helping to extend the life of the garment.

Textile manufacturers who become bluesign system partners agree to establish and follow management systems for improving environmental performance in five key areas of the production process: resource productivity, consumer safety, water emissions, air emissions, and occupational health and safety.

CURB is also compatible with Sciessent’s Agion Active XL, Lava, and Lava XL, three of the brand’s odor control technologies.
