National Jazz Appreciation Month celebration concludes with The Elder Statesmen of Kansas City Jazz Quartet at 39Rainbow on International Jazz Day, April 30

39Rainbow to support the future of Kansas City jazz by donating a portion of April proceeds from its restaurants to local organization Kansas City Jazz ALIVE

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (April 28, 2016) – 39Rainbow will conclude its month-long celebration of National Jazz Appreciation Month on International Jazz Day, Saturday, April 30. The finale concert will take place from 4 – 6 p.m., featuring a live performance from four of Kansas City’s most renowned musicians in The Elder Statesmen of Kansas City Jazz Quartet.

The Elder Statesmen are a well-known local music group connecting Kansas City Jazz, past and present. Its members have played since the height of jazz influence in Kansas City and all of the Elder Statesmen are members of the Mutual Musicians Foundation, a national landmark located in the historic 18th and Vine Jazz District in Kansas City. Additionally, all members help to create Kansas City Jazz, an authentic, Kansas City swing style of jazz. The quartet performing at 39Rainbow features Godfrey Powell on trumpet, Wallace Jones on the drums, Lee Edward Brown on baritone saxophone and Reginald Watkins on the piano.    

The final performance will take place in front of 39Rainbow restaurants Subway and Topp’d Pizza + Salads at the corner of 39th Street and Rainbow Boulevard. Additionally, 39Rainbow will donate a portion of proceeds from all five restaurants between April 1-30 to local jazz organization Kansas City Jazz ALIVE. The funds will be used to support its 2016 Charlie Parker Celebration, the nation’s largest celebration of the jazz legend.
