CARLSBAD, Calif. (April 12, 2016) — Boardworks is honored to announce the Outside Buyer’s Guide magazine’s editors awarded the Kraken with its prestigious Gear of the Year award in the “SUPs” category. Outside selected the Kraken for its versatile design and stable, nimble performance.

The Boardworks Kraken is the top stand up paddleboard choice for recreational and serious paddlers who demand a great all-around board for flatwater cruising and surfing.

“The Kraken stood out as one of the most fun boards in the widest variety of conditions. It surfs well in small to medium waves and has a nice glide on flat water,” said Dylan Silver, SUP test director for Outside. “Features like a comfortable carrying handle and a deck pad with a tail block notched it above some of the other SUPs in terms of practical performance.”

Over the past year, Outside Buyer’s Guide subjected the Kraken to a wide mix of conditions. It outperformed all other SUPs.

“We are honored the Outside Buyer’s Guide selected the Boardworks Kraken as the best SUP paddleboard of 2016,” said Phillip Rainey, product designer at Boardworks. “We set out to create a board that has excellent glide with ample stability for coastal, lake and bay cruising, combined with design features for good surf performance.”

The Kraken 11’ features a pulled-in, thinner nose and tail that allows it to surf well and reduces swing weight for a more lively feel. The sleek hull design allows for fast, smooth and stable paddling that makes it appealing for everyone from recreational beginners to expert paddlers.

The summer Outside Buyer’s Guide highlights the very best in adventure gear, from sports equipment, tools, and gadgets to footwear, outerwear, and sunglasses. It is the ultimate resource for product reviews, technology, news, and tips, and is organized according to sport and activity. It reaches more than 1.4 million frequent gear purchasers.
